Moving a step further towards revisiting Crystal Lake, Peacock and A24 have confirmed that a prequel series for the Friday the 13th franchise is indeed on its way to their streaming platform. Although specifics about the show are yet to be disclosed, it was speculated that it would revolve around Jason’s mother Pamela Voorhees. This theory has now been validated with the recent announcement that Linda Cardellini from Dead to Me will portray Pamela in Crystal Lake.
In 1957, Pamela began working at Crystal Lake, a time when an incident involving Jason’s supposed drowning occurred. The narrative could center around this era and the consequences following the 1960s and ’70s, leading up to the events depicted in the first film. It’s also known that she was responsible for murders that took place in 1958, stemming from her grief over her son’s demise.
Pamela was undermining attempts to restart the camp and may have engaged in some harmful or lethal acts during that time. There are many unanswered questions about her life and how Jason managed to stay alive for so long. It’s unlikely that the series will delve too deeply into the past, except perhaps through flashback sequences. We might also learn more about Jason’s early life and the enigmas surrounding his father.
