The next chapter in the ‘Final Destination‘ saga is quickly approaching, and we can’t help but feel a sense of apprehension. The final trailer for ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ has been released, offering a spine-tingling sneak peek into what lies ahead. This sixth installment aims to continue the franchise’s tradition of inventive, awe-inspiring death scenes and draw us back into its dark, intricate universe.
Since the year 2000, the ‘Final Destination’ film series has been sending shivers down the spines of viewers. It all began with a group of teenagers avoiding a plane crash, only to find themselves on the receiving end of Death’s relentless retribution. Each movie in the franchise expands upon this concept – someone eludes fate, but then fate strikes back in the most extraordinary ways. In ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’, we follow the story of Stefanie, a college student portrayed by Kaitlyn Santa Juana. Tormented by gruesome dreams that foretell her family’s demise, she embarks on a quest to find the one individual who could potentially halt the bloodshed.
Initially, what catches the eye is the talented cast. Joining Kaitlyn are Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, and Brec Bassinger, who add new blood to the horror. Notably, Tony Todd reprises his role as William Bludworth, a character he’s played since the first film and served as a cryptic guide through Death’s laws. Interestingly, Tony filmed his scenes prior to his passing in November 2024, making this a poignant farewell performance for him.
As a movie critic, I’m excited to share that the upcoming film, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, is set to hit theaters and MAX on May 16, 2025. Having collaborated on ‘Freaks,’ these directors know just the right blend of suspense and narrative coherence. The script was penned by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, with Jon Watts, who has recently steered the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, taking charge of shaping the story and producing. With such a talented team behind it, this film promises to keep the tension palpable throughout.
This movie is a continuation of the “Final Destination” series, 14 years after the release of “Final Destination 5” in 2011. At that time, the series introduced a twist by revealing that this film was actually a prequel to the initial one.
The filming concluded in Vancouver during the previous year, scheduled to premiere from March to May 2024, following a delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The IMAX release is particularly noteworthy; none of the ‘Final Destination’ films had this treatment before. With larger screens, anticipate more intense chills. I believe these grand displays will make each collision and shriek even more impactful.
