As a diehard Disney fan who has grown up with these timeless classics, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequels to Freaky Friday and Lilo & Stitch! Having watched both films countless times, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for those magical moments that left an indelible mark on my childhood.
Disney is preparing for an exhilarating growth spurt with the disclosure of launch dates for two eagerly awaited follow-ups: Freakier Friday and the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Following a captivating display at the D23 Expo, the creative minds behind these projects have announced that they will debut in 2025.
On August 8, 2025, Freakier Friday is set to premiere, whereas the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch will hit the screens on May 23, 2025.
After a gap of two decades since they first appeared, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are poised to reprise their roles in the sequel of the popular comedy they initially starred in. However, this upcoming film might face competition from another unnamed movie directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which will feature Leonardo DiCaprio.
Beyond Lee Curtis, Lohan, and others, additional original cast members are set to appear in the productions, such as Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Michell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. As per media reports, the film has completed its production phase.
In a fun new take on the classic 2003 movie, “Freaky Friday: A New Generation,” we find Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) years later. Anna is now a mother and about to become a stepmother, with her own daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter in the picture, following an unusual identity twist they experienced before.
In their journey through the complex issues that arise when two families combine, Tess and Anna find out that it’s possible for luck to repeat itself – perhaps even lightning striking twice.
Regarding the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, fans can anticipate Chris Sanders resuming his role as the voice of Stitch. Lilo will be played by newcomer Sydney Agusong in this version. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, Tia Carrere, and several other talented actors.
The original script was penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, based on a previous draft by Mike Van Waes. The production of Rideback is overseen by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, while Ryan Halprin holds the role of executive producer.
Lilo & Stitch and the latest Mission Impossible featuring Tom Cruise will enjoy the Memorial Day weekend together, each appealing to different audiences. While Mission Impossible caters to a predominantly male demographic, Lilo & Stitch focuses on families, ensuring a successful weekend for both.
