Released in theaters on August 8th, this movie is a follow-up to the beloved 2003 film Freaky Friday. It’s based on a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and is the seventh adaptation of this story about people switching bodies to appear on screen.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as Tess and Anna Coleman, the mother and daughter who famously switched lives in the first film.
Okay, so things get really crazy this time around! Anna somehow swaps bodies with her daughter, Harper (Julia Butters is amazing as her, by the way!), and at the same time, Tess switches places with Lily Reyes (Sophia Hammons), who’s about to become her stepdaughter. And honestly, the timing couldn’t be worse because Tess is trying to get ready for her wedding to Eric (Manny Jacinto)! It’s total chaos, but in the best way.
In addition to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, many of the original actors from the 2003 film are returning, such as Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Lucille Soong. The new film also features some new actors, blending familiar faces with fresh talent.
Freakier Friday was shot during the summer of 2024, from June to August, and first shown at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on July 22nd. The movie has been generally well-received by reviewers and has earned more than $153 million around the world.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the movie in theaters, you’ll be happy to know it’s coming to Disney+ soon! You’ll be able to enjoy all the fun, laughs, and heartwarming moments that made the original Freaky Friday so popular.
