Former ‘X-Men ’97’ Showrunner Goes on a Racist Rant & Slams Marvel for White Male Focus in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailers

Beau DeMayo, who previously led the creative direction of X-Men ’97, has publicly criticized Marvel Studios again. This time, he’s taken issue with the trailers for the new Avengers: Doomsday film, expressing his disapproval in a way many have described as racist.

The three trailers released so far each center around a key character or group of characters: Captain America, Thor, and Magneto and Professor X. While details are scarce about the fourth trailer, sources say it also primarily features white male characters.

DeMayo voiced his disappointment on Twitter, pointing out that all four trailers for #AvengersDoomsday prominently featured white male characters. He argued this wasn’t accidental, stating that people who look like him and women are being excluded from representation in the film.

Roy DeMayo has frequently voiced criticism of Marvel publicly. In March 2024, he was let go from the show X-Men ’97 after an internal investigation revealed what the studio called serious misconduct.

DeMayo said he was fired because of his race and sexual orientation. However, the studio responded by stating that he was let go in March 2024 after an internal investigation revealed serious misconduct. They emphasized that he is no longer associated with Marvel.

People close to the investigation report that inappropriate behavior and multiple breaches of his contract resulted in his name being removed from the credits of the show’s second season.

DeMayo has continued to openly share his disappointment, even using his OnlyFans account to discuss being fired.

He also disapproved of the way Marvel presented the story in the Avengers: Doomsday trailers, specifically the emphasis on characters concerned about their children.

He pointed out the recent trend of superheroes worrying about having children in movies, noting that it feels repetitive – similar to what was asked of him with the Blade film. While he acknowledges the new movie could be good, he currently sees a predictable and uninspired plot focused on protecting children, and feels the villain, Doctor Doom, has been diminished to simply a kidnapper.

DeMayo recently expressed his disappointment that Jake Schreier was selected to direct the new X-Men movie, as he had also hoped to take on that role.
