Former US President Jimmy Carter Becomes Oldest Grammy Nominee at Age 100, Earning Nod in THIS Category

As someone who has been fortunate enough to witness the remarkable journey of Jimmy Carter, I am simply awestruck by his latest achievement at the age of 100. The man continues to break barriers and set new standards for us all. With this 10th Grammy nomination, he not only solidifies his status as a legend in multiple fields but also demonstrates that age is truly just a number when one has a burning passion and unwavering dedication.

100-year-old Jimmy Carter garnered his tenth Grammy nomination on November 8, becoming the oldest nominee ever recognized by the Recording Academy. This historic nod came in the Best Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category for his album “Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration”.

The album, spoken by Carter, was launched to honor his 100th birthday in October. It contains recordings from Carter’s last Sunday school talk given at Maranatha Baptist Church in his native town of Plains, Georgia, where he had been a long-time speaker. His talks are harmonized with music by Jon Batiste, Darius Rucker, Nicole Zuraitis, LeAnn Rimes, and others.

Kabir Sehgal, the project’s creator, shared with Georgia Public Broadcasting that this offering represents the culmination of President Carter’s decades-long Sunday school teachings, which he personally observed. As Sehgal explained, these teachings, put to music, served as a means for Carter to express his love for the Carter family.

The ex-president’s prayers and teachings captured for the album encompass a variety of themes, including the present state of American politics. As reported by People, at one instance in the album, the previous U.S. president encourages upcoming political figures to strive as advocates for human rights, environmental preservation, and equality.

“Don’t those seem like items you aspire for?” he inquires. “As citizens of America, it falls upon us to improve our nation by contributing to enhancing someone else’s life.

Carter bagged three Grammys, each in the Best Spoken Word Album category. He was awarded for Faith—A Journey for All (in 2018), A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety (in 2015), and Our Endangered Values: America’s Moral Crisis (in 2005).

For the tenth time, the Carter Foundation published a post about X, expressing gratitude for being nominated yet again for this esteemed prize.

2025 Grammy nominations for the Audiobook and Narration category include George Clinton’s And Your Ass Will Follow, Guy Oldfield’s All You Need is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words, Dolly Parton’s Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones, as well as Barbra Streisand’s My Name Is Barbra, which were nominated alongside Carter’s album.

The news of Carter’s nomination comes 21 months after he entered hospice care.

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena.
