Former Thanos Josh Brolin Hints at Playing Darkseid in the DCU

Josh Brolin, known for his role as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to become a legendary sci-fi villain alongside Darth Vader and Khan. Now, he’s suggesting that he might take on another cosmic villain role, specifically Darkseid from DC Comics. Reports have emerged that after rejecting the part of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series, DC Studios is still considering Brolin for another role, and he recently shared a fan-made image of himself as Darkseid on Instagram, which could mean he’s interested in playing the ruler of Apokolips.

Word on the street is that discussions about a major project in the DC Universe are ongoing with Josh Brolin. The potential collaboration between Josh and DC offers an incredible chance to create the most hilarious moment yet…. 😂

Jack Kirby brought Darkseid to life as part of his “New Gods” series for DC Comics in 1970, although the series didn’t run for long, Darkseid gained significant popularity in other comics and eventually became DC Universe’s most prominent antagonist. Marvel Comics requested Jim Starlin to create a character similar to Darkseid, leading to the introduction of Thanos. Over time, Thanos evolved into his own character, but still shares many traits with Darkseid. These two powerful alien rulers share so many similarities that it’s surprising Josh Brolin wanted to portray either one, especially given the lucrative paycheck it would offer.

Currently, there’s no confirmed Darkseid project ongoing at DC Studios following the cancellation of Ava DuVernay’s New Gods film by Warner Bros. However, if this project is revived, we don’t recommend James Gunn to replicate his Marvel success with Darkseid, considering Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Josh Brolin (Thanos) have already portrayed similar characters in the MCU. For the iconic voice of Darkseid, we believe Keith David would be a perfect fit. If they’re looking for a younger actor capable of motion capture work as well, Javier Bardem could excel in this role. As for Josh Brolin, if he wishes to play a villain in the DC Universe, we think he’d be more suited as Deathstroke rather than Darkseid. He’d undoubtedly shine in that role.
