The long-awaited DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, titled Legacy of the Forge, is now available. In this expansion, players have the chance to restore the forge that was once Martin’s cherished workplace during his youthful years. Similar to the From the Ashes DLC in the original game, Legacy of the Forge doesn’t just limit rebuilding and reopening the forge; it also allows for customization of the forge, the surrounding area, and even personal living quarters. This DLC is quite ambitious, yet it successfully highlights a more comfortable aspect that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has previously only hinted at.
As a devoted fan, I must admit that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Legacy of the Forge DLC shares some resemblance with the captivating gameplay loop of Stardew Valley. However, one feature commonly cherished in many beloved cozy games and RPGs seems to be missing – fishing!
Though players can customize their forge’s appearance and benefit from passive bonuses provided by specific furniture pieces, they can also immerse themselves completely in the game by focusing on Guild Activities that offer lucrative rewards. The peaceful atmosphere of Kuttenberg is palpable, yet, surprisingly, the Legacy of the Forge DLC fails to include fishing as a part of its charm.
Legacy of the Forge Adds Coziness but Leaves Fishing on the Shore

Cozy Game Comparisons Only Go So Far
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 doesn’t feature high-octane action, but it isn’t entirely relaxed either. On the other hand, Legacy of the Forge has a more leisurely pace, allowing players to engage in peaceful activities like blacksmithing, customizing their forge, and socializing with members of the Blacksmiths Guild of Kuttenberg. Reminiscent of beloved casual games such as Stardew Valley, this DLC distinguishes itself from the main campaign with its slower-paced systems. During a pre-release livestream, Warhorse Studios even described Legacy of the Forge as “Stardew Valley, but slower.

Regrettably, likening Legacy of the Forge to games such as Stardew Valley reveals what’s missing from it. It was never intended to be Stardew Valley; instead, it remains firmly rooted in the historically authentic Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This restricts its potential offerings. Despite this, the crafting and customization tools are effectively implemented, yet the absence of a leisurely in-game afternoon by a river underscores the boundaries of Legacy of the Forge’s inviting facade.

The Most Obvious Feature Still Isn’t Here
Fishing appears to be a logical extension for the Kingdom Come series. After all, there are fisherman merchants and the map hints at potential fishing locations with “Fishing Spot” markers. However, unlike previous DLCs, the Legacy of the Forge expansion for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 did not include a fishing system, despite it being an ideal addition given the series’ focus on immersion and realism. In fact, among all the DLC released so far, as well as those planned, the Legacy of the Forge DLC seemed particularly poised to introduce fishing mechanics to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for the first time.

In this rephrased version, I’ve aimed to keep the original sentiment while making it more accessible and easy to read:
The game, at present, does not include fishing, which gives the impression that it was deliberately left out rather than an unintentional oversight. This absence is particularly noticeable in a DLC so centered on the tranquil aspects of medieval life. The expectation now lies with the upcoming expansion, as incorporating fishing could significantly improve immersion and fulfill a promise hinted at since the series began. However, it seems unusual for the next DLC of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Mysteria Ecclesiae, to introduce fishing when its previous cozy expansion did not.
