Footlocker Home Court: London Was Strictly For the Local Community

In 2021, Footlocker embarked on a project to renovate Clapham Common Court in South London, with the goal of fostering local interest in basketball. After four years, these black-and-blue courts have regained attention as part of Footlocker’s “Home Court: London” competition.

To mark Jordan Brand’s 40th anniversary, a one-day event was held last month that brought together 12 local basketball teams for a traditional 5v5 game. In addition to showcasing these competing teams, Footlocker also offered masterclasses and hoop challenges for the neighborhood community, providing opportunities to enhance their court skills.

Under the scorching summer sun, I found myself immersed in the electrifying atmosphere of Home Court, where tunes crafted by Nottingham’s LostBoys Channel filled the air. While some enthusiastic attendees eagerly awaited their turn at the slam dunk contest, I joined the crowd huddled around the main court, our eyes fixed on the thrilling tournament unfolding before us. The tension was palpable as the women’s competition reached its climax, and when Thunder Bellas emerged victorious, a wave of excitement swept through the crowd. In the men’s division, UFDN clinched the victory, scoring them an exclusive in-store shopping spree. What a day it was!

Neil Carter, Vice President of Footlocker, expressed his thoughts after a day brimming with neighborhood-led sports events, saying, “The London Court: Home Edition highlighted some outstanding grassroots basketball from across the UK. As a brand that values basketball deeply, it was thrilling to organize this tournament for our community. Our aim is to foster the growth of future basketball stars and perhaps welcome them back to the court in future competitions.
