Following Disastrous Ratings, Wonder Man Is Now Free To Watch

Following disappointing viewership numbers for Marvel shows on Disney+, Wonder Man is taking a new approach by releasing a preview episode on YouTube.

Marvel has released the first episode, titled “Matinee,” to watch for free on their official YouTube channel. They also announced the release on X (formerly Twitter).

Nielsen charts, but the per-episode average is ugly

The Disney+ series Wonder Man entered the top 10 streaming charts for the week of January 26th to February 1st, 2026. It reached number 8 on the Originals list, with viewers watching a total of 618 million minutes of all eight episodes.

That’s just 77.25 million minutes watched per episode, which is a surprisingly low number considering it was released all at once for the entire season. It seems to be a new low for Marvel shows on Disney+.

Compared to other shows, Echo performed strongly, racking up 731 million minutes viewed during the week of January 8th–14th, 2024. With five episodes released, that’s an average of 146.2 million minutes per episode – almost twice as much as Wonder Man when looking at minutes per episode.

The free YouTube release lands as more reporting circulates about behind-the-scenes trouble.

According to showrunner Andrew Guest, speaking on The Watch podcast, the production of the show faced serious challenges. He explained that Disney+ reassessed its streaming strategy while the show was being made, and at one point, it was nearly cancelled.

According to Guest, the initial test screenings for the first two episodes weren’t very good. Instead of cancelling the series, Marvel decided to change its marketing approach.
