As a fervent fan and admirer of Kristen Bell, I must say that her candidness and humility never cease to amaze me. Her recent revelation about not setting foot on the Gossip Girl set is a testament to her dedication to her craft, even when it means being detached from the physical production. It’s amusing to imagine Bell, the voice of Gossip Girl, asking someone else where the show was filmed!
As a die-hard fan, it’s hard to believe that I, Kristen Bell, who brought the iconic Gossip Girl character to life, hadn’t stepped onto the actual set of the series! In a heart-to-heart with Bustle, I confessed my ignorance: all my lines were recorded from afar, keeping me away from the show’s filming location.
During the interview, Bell talked about feeling detached from where Gossip Girl, the Upper East Side of New York City-based series, was filmed. Bell humorously pointed out to her Bustle interview partner, Adam Brody, “Fun fact: As Gossip Girl, I only used a microphone in Los Angeles; I never filmed with them.” Then she jokingly inquired, “So where did they film that show?
In a playful exchange, when asked about his location, Brody, husband of Leighton Meester known for her role in Gossip Girl, quipped “Montreal”. Initially, Bell seemed to accept the answer, saying “Alright, first time I’ve heard that.” It wasn’t until Brody clarified with “Actually, New York” that Bell understood it was a joke. With laughter, she replied, “Oh, you were joking about New York?
Brody jokingly commented, “It’s clear how passionate she was about it.” Later, Bell clarified her duties, saying she was just there to “take the microphone and dish out some attitude” as the enigmatic Gossip Girl.
Bell also looked back on her earlier experiences with Leighton Meester, specifically their time working on Veronica Mars. She commented, “We shared many scenes together,” and fondly recalled Meester’s acting during the storyline in which her character potentially had relationships with a teacher.
After the success of Gossip Girl, Bell has ventured into numerous roles, such as in Frozen and The Good Place. Yet, she remains committed to harmonizing her professional commitments with family life. Speaking to PEOPLE, she mentioned that she’s learning to allocate her time wisely, particularly given her husband Dax Shepard and their daughters, Lincoln and Delta. Although Bell confesses that turning down requests can be challenging for someone like her who enjoys pleasing others, she’s making efforts to create room for leisure, emphasizing the importance of taking breaks, “I find it essential to pause frequently.
