As a lifelong sports enthusiast who has spent countless hours watching college football games and dreaming about the glory days of my own brief stint as a quarterback, I can’t help but be excited for Hulu’s upcoming series, Chad Powers. The concept of a washed-up quarterback disguising himself to get back in the game is not only intriguing but also relatable on some level.

I remember my own college football career being derailed by a series of unfortunate events (okay, mostly due to my own bad behavior), so I can sympathize with Russ Holliday’s plight. And let’s face it, who among us hasn’t considered pulling a Chad Powers at some point in our lives?

I’m particularly impressed by the fact that Glen Powell and Michael Waldron are not only starring in but also co-creating this series. It shows a level of commitment and passion that I can appreciate, having dabbled in both acting and writing myself (admittedly with less success than these talented gentlemen).

The impressive lineup of producers, including the Manning brothers themselves, bodes well for the quality of the show. And with Tony Yacenda at the helm as director, I’m confident that we’ll be in store for some top-notch comedy and drama.

I can already picture myself huddled up on my couch (or maybe even in a real football huddle, who knows?) come Fall 2025, ready to cheer on Chad Powers as he takes the field once more. And if all else fails, at least I’ll have a good excuse for why I’m wearing a wig and prosthetics to the watch party. After all, you never know when you might need a backup quarterback!

Preparing for its upcoming premiere in Fall 2025, streaming platform Hulu is readying itself for the launch of its fresh, half-hour comedy series titled Chad Powers. This hilarious show stars Glen Powell and was jointly created with Michael Waldron. The series takes a comical and unusual look at the realm of college football.

The narrative revolves around Russ Holliday, a former college quarterback with NFL aspirations, whose career is disrupted by misconduct. Eager for atonement, Holliday assumes the identity of Chad Powers, an affable and skilled athlete, and manages to join a struggling Southern football team secretly. With wigs and makeup as his tools, he undergoes a transformation that offers him another opportunity to pursue his dreams.

In the trailer, Powell plays both Holliday and his alternate character, highlighting the humorous and physical disparity between them. “I’ve got something brewing,” Holliday remarks in the video. “Something rather substantial.

The series takes its cue from an ESPN+ comedy bit from 2022 featuring ex-NFL quarterback Eli Manning pretending to be an undercover recruit at Penn State. Producers Powell and Waldron sought to build upon this concept, aiming to craft a lighthearted and engaging sports narrative.

In their statement, the pair expressed that they are avid college football enthusiasts. Upon seeing Eli portrayed as Chad Powers, they felt there was an exciting, entertaining tale just waiting to unfold. They’re eagerly looking forward to having Chad join the action.

The series is backed by a stellar group of producers too, featuring Eli and Peyton Manning through their company, Omaha Productions, along with Jamie Horowitz and Ben Brown, who are lending their expertise from ESPN.

In this project, Tony Yacenda takes on both directorial duties and the role of executive producer. Additionally, Luvh Rakhe and Adam Fasullo are part of the production team. Notably, Powell is also an executive producer via Barnstorm Productions.

Alongside Powell, the cast also includes Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez, and Steve Zahn, forming an ensemble geared towards providing both humor and emotional resonance.
