As a die-hard MCU fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation when it comes to the potential return of Obadiah Stane. The character, played brilliantly by Jeff Bridges, left us hanging back in 2008 with that dramatic fall into the vat of his own making.
Back in 2008, I became part of something extraordinary when I watched “Iron Man” unfold on the big screen – it signified the birth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This groundbreaking film not only ushered in the first superhero within this cinematic realm but also introduced its inaugural antagonist, none other than Obadiah Stane.
In the story, Obadiah Stane is depicted as a business associate and guide to Howard Stark, as well as Tony Stark’s mentor. As the head of Stark Industries, he holds significant power within the company.
In their final showdown, dubbed the “Battle of Los Angeles,” Iron Man and Stane face off against one another. During this intense encounter, Stane seemingly meets his demise when his prototype arc reactor, which lies beneath him, explodes, electrocuting him and causing him to plummet into it prior to detonation.
However, is it truly goodbye? On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jeff Bridges, known for his role as Stane, hinted that there might be a possibility for Stane to make a comeback in a manner reminiscent of classic comic book storytelling. As suggested by Bridges, an earlier draft of the script implied that Stane survived the deadly crash, thus potentially opening the way for the antagonist’s reappearance.
According to the script I was provided and consented to follow, Obadiah Stane ends up falling into a vat. However, when I came to film my part, the armor was removed, opened, but I wasn’t there.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder over the possibility of Stane reappearing in our ongoing multiverse tale. If he does, it would undeniably add layers to the narrative, making the story even more captivating and complex.
As for the possibility of Stane’s reappearance, there are two strong contenders under consideration. Whispers suggest that the upcoming “Ironheart” series might introduce Obadiah Stane’s son and a seventeen-year-old grudge being unearthed.
Nevertheless, it appears that “Armor Wars” could be a better choice for his return. Nonetheless, current news suggests that the production of this film may encounter difficulties; the studio remains undecided as to whether they will terminate the project or proceed with its development.
