Fans of Star Trek have something to look forward to with the upcoming premiere of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on January 15, 2026. Recently, Collider revealed the first glimpse of a new cast member: Rebecca Quin, a star from WWE who many know as Becky Lynch.
Quin will portray a member of Starfleet’s command team, working on the bridge. Photos show her with a bob haircut featuring blue highlights, and she otherwise looks like a typical human.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season three will feature Holly Hunter as Captain Ake, who is also a Chancellor guiding Starfleet Academy’s newest graduating class. Several beloved actors from past Star Trek series will return, including Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly, Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, Oded Fehr as Charles Vance, and Robert Picardo once again playing the Doctor, the Emergency Medical Holograph.
The cast welcomes several new faces, including Stephen Colbert, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, George Hawkins, Karim Diane, Paul Giamatti, Tatiana Maslany, and Kerrice Brooks.

Quin expressed her enthusiasm for the new series, reminiscing about how Star Trek was a constant presence during her childhood in Ireland. She explained that with only a few TV channels available, Star Trek was always playing in the background. While she didn’t always sit down to watch it, she enjoyed the movies and was a big fan of Colm Meaney, noting that everyone would gather around the TV whenever he appeared on screen.
She also described filming on the bridge set as “one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on.”
As a huge Star Trek fan, I was really excited to hear about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy! It’s the newest addition to the franchise – the twelfth series, actually – and it’s been created by Gaia Violo for Paramount+. I’m looking forward to seeing what she brings to the Star Trek universe.
A new trailer has been released for #StarTrek: Starfleet Academy! It gives a first look at the return of Cadets to #StarfleetAcademy in San Francisco and introduces the new starship, the USS Athena. Expect it in early 2026! #SDCC

Set over 300 years in the future, this show centers on a fresh group of Starfleet cadets—the first in over a hundred years—as they learn to become officers. The cast includes newcomers Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard, alongside returning stars Hunter, Steiner, Picardo, Notaro, and Fehr.
The show was greenlit in March 2023, and Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are leading the creative team. Filming for the first season took place at Pinewood Toronto Studios from August 2024 to February of this year, and production on season two started in August. The first two episodes of Starfleet Academy will premiere on Paramount+ on January 15, 2026, followed by eight more episodes released weekly, concluding on March 12.
