Netflix is creating a new series based on the world of Stranger Things, called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
During their 2025 Stranger Things Day event, the streaming service shared initial photos, a short preview clip, and announced the actors who will be providing voices for the show.
This new series, a spin-off of the original, is set in 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana. It aims to capture the same thrilling blend of monsters, adventure, and 1980s vibes that fans loved. However, this version stands out with its animated format and a classic cartoon look reminiscent of the decade.
When Netflix asked about creating spinoffs, the Duffer Brothers—the creators of the show—immediately thought of an animated series. They wanted it to feel like the original Stranger Things, but with the visual style of a classic 1980s cartoon, as they explained.

Netflix has shared new photos featuring the young characters – Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Will – and a glimpse of the eerie Upside Down. While the setting of Hawkins and its creatures will be recognizable, the original actors won’t be providing the voices for their characters this time around.
The new Stranger Things audio drama, Tales From ’85, will feature a fresh cast of voice actors. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will voice Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport will be Max, Luca Diaz will play Mike, Ej Williams will voice Lucas, Braxton Quinney will be Dustin, Ben Plessala will play Will, and Brett Gipson will voice Hopper. Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips will also contribute voices to the series.
While Netflix hasn’t confirmed when it will be available, the new series is currently planned for release in 2026. This means fans won’t have to wait for the annual Stranger Things Day to experience a new story set in the town of Hawkins.
