The creators of One Piece have announced a temporary pause in the anime’s release schedule. Production will be halted for three months, from January to March 2026, to allow the team to get ready for the next major story arc. The anime will return in April 2026, beginning the Elbaph Island arc.
The anime is returning with a significant change: it will now adapt roughly one chapter of the manga per episode. This new approach should make the anime’s pacing much more similar to the original manga, which is something fans have been requesting for a long time.
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece first appeared in July 1997 and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. By August 2022, over 500 million copies had been distributed, marking the 25th anniversary of this incredibly successful manga. The anime series, which began in October 1999, is still airing today and remains a long-running and beloved show in Japan.
