Fans of Michael Jackson are getting their first glimpse of the new movie about his life. A short trailer for the film, called Michael, was released today.
The trailer showcases Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson, taking on the role of Michael Jackson, performing his songs and recreating his famous dances.

Antoine Fuqua directs the film, with a screenplay by John Logan. Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael Jackson in his debut film role. Colman Domingo plays Michael’s father and manager, Joe Jackson, while Nia Long portrays his mother, Katherine. Kat Graham plays Motown icon Diana Ross, and Miles Teller is Michael’s lawyer and manager, John Branca. Juliano Krue Valdi plays a young Michael Jackson.
The trailer shows Jaafar dressed as Michael Jackson, wearing his famous outfits and hats while performing. The movie will explore both Jackson’s personal life and his most memorable early concerts, offering fans an unprecedented look into his world. The film is produced by Graham King, known for the successful Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Colman Domingo, nominated for an Oscar for his work in Rustin, shared with PEOPLE earlier this year that he was enjoying himself while filming the movie.
This movie tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life and work, from his beginnings with the Jackson 5 in the late 1960s through to his passing in 2009. The film features a talented cast, including Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, and Derek Luke as Johnnie Cochran, alongside many other actors.
Work on the movie about Michael Jackson started in November 2019, and Lionsgate officially announced it in February 2022. Antoine Fuqua signed on to direct in January 2023, and that same month, Jaafar Jackson was chosen to play Michael.
The movie was filmed between January and May 2024, with some extra scenes shot in June. It will be released in the US on April 24, 2026, and Universal Pictures will distribute it internationally.
