First Look: Henry Cavill Shares His Transformation Into Connor MacLeod for ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Henry Cavill has revealed the first image of himself as Connor MacLeod in the new Highlander movie, offering fans a preview of his character transformation.

The new *Highlander* film, currently titled *The Reckoning*, has been in the works for a long time and has gone through many changes with its actors, directors, and writers. The actor also shared that an injury he sustained has delayed filming by several months.

The project started in 2008 when Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to the series and decided to remake the 1986 movie.

Several directors, including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, and Chad Stahelski, were considered for the film at various times. Similarly, the script went through many iterations with writers like Melissa Rosenberg, Ryan J. Condal, and Mike Finch. Producer Neal H. Moritz explained to Collider that they aimed to honor the established lore of the Highlander series while also creating a version that would appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences.

The new version of the film has brought together a talented group of actors. Russell Crowe agreed to play Ramirez in June, and Karen Gillan was added to the cast as Heather in August.

Henry Cavill was officially cast as MacLeod in the fall of 2023, and Chad Stahelski is directing the film. The movie has a budget exceeding $100 million, and is being produced by Joshua Davis, Basil Moritz, Chad Stahelski, and Louise Rosner. Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber picked up the project in April, releasing it under the United Artists label.

Filming was originally supposed to start sooner, but it was delayed when Henry Cavill was injured. Now, production is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

Fans are thrilled that Henry Cavill will be playing the immortal MacLeod. With Chad Stahelski – the director behind the popular *John Wick* movies – at the helm, this new version of the story is expected to be action-packed and exciting. The combination of Cavill, Stahelski, and a strong supporting cast is already creating a lot of anticipation.
