Netflix just revealed a first glimpse of its new animated series based on ‘Stranger Things,’ and it’s already generating buzz among fans.
The new series, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is set in the winter of 1985, fitting between the second and third seasons of the original show. It’s designed to expand on the existing story by filling in details, rather than picking up where the main series left off.
I was so excited to see the new poster Netflix just dropped! It features Eleven powerfully leading the charge, hand raised, with Mike, Dustin, Will, Lucas, and Max following her through a snowy Hawkins. But what really got me was the glimpse of this new monster looming ahead – it looks terrifying, with these long, vine-like tendrils, clearly crawling out of the Upside Down. And the best part? We get a teaser trailer tomorrow! I can’t wait to see more.

Netflix says the animated spin-off is expected in 2026, though they haven’t given a specific date. With promotion beginning in early February, many fans are hoping it will arrive in the first six months of the year.
A key change in Tales from ’85 is the voice cast. The original actors, like Millie Bobby Brown, won’t be reprising their roles. Instead, new actors will be voicing the characters – Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will play Eleven, and Luca Diaz will play Mike. While familiar faces will return, Netflix has also introduced a new character named Nikki Baxter.
Nikki will be an important character as a fresh supernatural threat appears in Hawkins. Her introduction, and the new monster, makes viewers wonder how this storyline connects to the rest of ‘Stranger Things,’ especially since it’s never referenced in future seasons.
The winter backdrop is particularly noticeable. Unlike the original show, which was mostly set in warmer weather with just a handful of Christmas scenes, this spinoff features a snow-covered Hawkins, creating a distinct visual style and atmosphere.
Despite being animated, the creators of the original series, the Duffer Brothers, are still heavily involved as executive producers. Netflix believes this will ensure the new show feels like a genuine continuation of the Stranger Things story – a missing piece from the past. The animation style is also intended to recapture the sense of wonder and nostalgia that made the earlier seasons so special.
Fans have also noticed Eleven is prominently featured on the new poster. It’s her first appearance since the original series concluded on December 31st. Although the new show won’t reveal what happened to her – as it’s set years in the past – many believe her return will be a major attraction.
With anticipation growing, viewers have mixed reactions to the show’s new animation and voice actors. While some are eager to see what these changes bring, others are hesitant.
