First Look at ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 as Series Secures Season 4 Renewal

Good news for fans of House of the Dragon: HBO has ordered a fourth season! We can expect to see it in 2028.

The good news for viewers is that season three is expected to arrive in the summer of 2026.

HBO announced some exciting news in New York. CEO Casey Bloys revealed that the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has already been picked up for a second season – and the first season hasn’t even premiered yet on January 18th.

The second season is scheduled to arrive in 2027, promising fans of the Game of Thrones world a new story each year through 2028.

As a huge fan of the ‘Game of Thrones’ world, I was so excited to hear Francesca Orsi, head of HBO programming, announce that they’re renewing these shows for another three years! It’s fantastic news for all of us who love this universe.

Both ‘House of the Dragon’ and the upcoming ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ demonstrate the incredible depth and creativity of George R.R. Martin’s world. Viewers should enjoy the heartwarming story of Dunk and Egg when it arrives in January, beautifully brought to life by George and Ira Parker. And this summer, ‘House of the Dragon’ promises even more spectacular battles.

Critics have also been enjoying the show. Season two currently has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 272 reviews, with an average score of 7.55/10.

According to a website review, House of the Dragon builds tension and emotional connections slowly and intentionally, making its dramatic moments even more impactful. The second season received a Metacritic score of 73, indicating generally positive reviews.

The show has been performing well overall, although the start of the second season saw a slight drop in viewers. The premiere attracted 7.8 million people watching on TV and streaming platforms, which was a bit lower than the 10 million who tuned in for the first season’s premiere. However, viewership in Latin America actually increased by 30% compared to season one.

The second season of the show started with 1.3 million viewers in the U.S., a bit lower than the 2.6 million who watched the first episode of season one. Streaming numbers were strong too, with viewers watching a total of 1.23 billion minutes of the show during the week of June 17th to 23rd, according to Nielsen. As the season went on, more people tuned in, and the finale attracted 8.9 million viewers across both television and streaming platforms. HBO reported that the finale was the show’s most-watched streaming episode ever.

Fans of House of the Dragon have plenty to be excited about, with both season three coming soon and season four already planned.
