Good news for those who loved Denis Villeneuve’s *Dune* movies: *Dune: Part Three* is now officially being made!
This movie will finish Denis Villeneuve’s highly praised *Dune* series, based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel, *Dune Messiah*. Warner Bros. has announced it will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Denis Villeneuve returns as director and co-writer alongside Jon Spaihts, further developing his take on the world of Arrakis and the story of Paul Atreides.
The stars of *Dune: Part Two*—including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Anya Taylor-Joy—are all expected to reprise their roles. Joining them is Robert Pattinson, who will be playing a currently undisclosed character.
Filming began in July at Origo Film Studios in Budapest. Later this year, the production is also planning to shoot additional scenes in the Liwa Oasis in Abu Dhabi.
For the upcoming Dune: Part Three, director Denis Villeneuve is switching things up technically by filming on traditional film stock, and even using IMAX film for certain scenes. This is a return to his earlier work, as he hasn’t used film since his 2010 movie Incendies, having previously favored digital filmmaking.
The first glimpse behind the scenes of the upcoming film showed Timothée Chalamet, with a post saying “DUN3 LOADING…” This sparked a lot of excitement among fans, who are now trying to guess what will happen to his character, Paul Atreides, as the story heads towards its conclusion.

Hans Zimmer, the renowned composer, will return to create the music for the final film in the series, continuing his successful partnership with director Denis Villeneuve after composing the memorable scores for the previous two movies. This confirmation came in February 2024.
By October, Rebecca Ferguson had finished filming her parts as Lady Jessica, indicating that production was progressing smoothly and according to plan.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Dune: Part Three exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026.
