First Look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey: Trojan War Confirmed

As a movie enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon an intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpse into Christopher Nolan’s upcoming masterpiece, “The Odyssey.” This tantalizing sneak peek offers a captivating insight into the film’s authentic setting and time period, further fueling my anticipation for this grand cinematic journey.

From my perspective as an admirer, there isn’t much information available about “The Odyssey” beyond its characters and title. However, I recently came across a tweet from a Christopher Nolan fan account that has shed some light on the matter. It appears his upcoming film will be set in the same time period as the original epic, around 1600 to 1200 B.C., instead of being modernized.

A fan’s Twitter post shared a photo from Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco, revealing the construction of a set. The picture features the set of the Trojan Horse, as mentioned by the account. They’ve hinted that Aït Ben Haddou will stand in for Troy and that the epic battle of the Trojan War will be portrayed in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

How the Trojan Horse fits with The Odyssey

In my opinion, “The Odyssey” is set after the events of the Trojan War. The story itself doesn’t include the Trojan Horse, but it’s known that Odysseus conceived the idea for it. Therefore, when we see Nolan’s film, there could be a flashback scene showing the Trojan War and the Trojan Horse, or alternatively, the war and the horse might have occurred at the beginning of the movie, leading into “The Odyssey.

Filming locations

The article also highlighted the shooting spots: “Principal photography kicks off in Messinia, Greece, starting March 10, 2025, and runs through March 25, 2025. This production is expected to employ approximately 350 individuals, which includes both crew members and actors, as well as a sizable number of vehicles, ranging from 100 to 150. Auditions for background actors were held in Kalamata, Methoni, and Pylos between February 4–7, 2025. Additionally, Yason Burnu, situated in Ordu’s Perşembe district, Turkey, was also noted as a shooting location.

In a separate tweet, it was mentioned that certain sequences for director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie titled ‘THE ODYSSEY’ are set to be captured at Yason Burnu, which is found within the Perşembe district in Ordu, Turkey.
