There’s been a bit of a lull concerning Oxide Games and Microsoft’s turn-based strategy title, Ara: History Untold, which isn’t unusual given the massive focus on Civilization 7. With Firaxis’ flagship game no longer stealing all the spotlight, the developers have shared news about upcoming content for the game launched in 2024 and a shift in leadership.
In this arrangement, Oxide remains as the developer while Microsoft serves as the publisher. However, Stardock Entertainment has joined the team to handle the overall production management of the game. Known for their expertise in the strategy genre, Stardock has actually been working on Ara even before its launch. Now under their supervision, the initial paid DLC for the game, titled Untold Scenarios, is scheduled for release on PC in June 2025.
In a new development, Untold Scenarios introduces a scenario system into the game, offering a variety of pre-built missions along with an array of fresh map designs, events, facilities, and technological advancements. These scenarios are also valuable resources for modders.
Following the launch of the DLC, there are several planned free updates in store. By May 2025, Oxide is set to roll out significant improvements to combat, a comprehensive balance adjustment, performance enhancements, a fresh Earth map, a dynamic strategy map, and tweaks to the AI for more realistic settlement behavior.
In addition to the DLC launching in June 2025, we’ll be rolling out Version 1.4 which includes several enhancements: an updated economy manager, new multiplayer arena maps, improvements to AI economy and diplomacy, and continued optimization for better performance.
Over the summer season, our team is working on the next version, which we’re calling Version 2.0. This update includes a new visual design, enhanced user interface, a system to impact gameplay, exclusive army units for different countries, a fresh Warfare Pass, and unique AI characters.
Having spent several decades perfecting strategy games, Stardock is ideally suited to oversee future content development for Ara: History Untold,” stated Brad Wardell, who holds CEO positions at both Stardock Entertainment and Oxide Games. “By carefully listening to player feedback, we aim to amplify the game’s historical impact on a global scale.
