Finneas Guides Sister Billie Eilish In Music Production As He Prepares To Step Back From Engineering For Her: ‘She’s Very Good At It’

As a lifestyle expert who values self-reliance and growth, I admire Finneas for his approach to empowering Billie Eilish. The wisdom of teaching her to produce music independently is reminiscent of a master potter molding an apprentice, allowing them to create their unique pieces while learning the craft.

Finneas, Billie Eilish’s older brother who has contributed to all three of her studio albums, is currently guiding her towards becoming more independent in music production. In a recent conversation with Guitar.com, he mentioned that he’s been gradually handing over the engineering responsibilities to Eilish, who is 22 years old now.

I’ve been helping Billie establish a home recording studio, allowing her to independently produce music since she’s quite skilled at it. Interestingly, I’m only providing her with the essential equipment to encourage her self-learning.

In a shift towards advanced equipment, the artist behind Till Forever Falls Apart now advises Billie to begin with basic gear for a smoother start in their musical journey.

He mentioned that he could give her all the instruments and technology he currently uses, but it took him years to understand how to use them effectively. Finneas added that if he provided Billie with basic equipment, it would make sense to her immediately.

During the interview, Finneas, the primary music producer for the Bad Guy singer, took a brief pause to dispel a common misunderstanding – that their work is predominantly digital. He referenced their 2017 EP, Don’t Smile At Me, to emphasize their fondness for guitars and their regular use of live instruments when producing hits like Happier Than Ever (from 2021) and Hit Me Hard and Soft (expected in 2024), both featured on Eilish’s successful albums.

In July, during their appearance on Hot Ones, the pair of siblings took fans behind the scenes of their latest album’s recording process. Contrary to popular belief that the production would be smooth due to their close bond, they explained that it was generally not so.

Finneas admits that in the past, he may have come across as arrogant while encouraging Eilish to be more genuine, but he’s since learned valuable lessons from his overly self-centered behavior. He disclosed that their disagreement took place during a time when they were both undergoing personal transformations.

Beyond their collaborative victories, Finneas has gained recognition through his solo works like the albums “Blood Harmony” (released in 2019) and “Optimist” (from 2021). On the other hand, Eilish recently earned the title of Spotify’s most-streamed monthly artist with an impressive 100 million listeners.
