Finn Wolfhard Shares Bizarre and Outrageous Fan Encounter: “I Think About That All the Time”

With Season 5, Volume 1 of Stranger Things on the horizon, the actors are looking back at their experiences with the show, which has been a part of their lives for more than ten years.

Collider spoke with the stars of the show – Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin – about finishing the final season, their first reactions to the scripts, and the amazing fans they’ve connected with.

The actors shared that reading the final episode of the series was a surprisingly emotional experience. Sadie Sink explained to Collider that it caught them off guard, saying she didn’t expect to be so moved. Finn Wolfhard echoed this, recalling he thought he’d be able to get through it until he began reading his lines and started to feel overwhelmed.

Gaten Matarazzo explained that emotions quickly filled the room, and Caleb McLaughlin did his best to remain calm despite the strong feelings around him.

McLaughlin described the moment as feeling like a scene from an anime—specifically, a slow, beautiful ballad with a moving musical score. He said he was struck by the emotions on everyone’s faces. Finn agreed, adding that it felt like experiencing a flashback in real life.

I loved hearing what the cast thought about the finale, but what really got me were the stories they told about meeting fans! Some of those encounters sounded absolutely crazy and so heartwarming to hear about.

Finn Wolfhard shared a really strange story about a fan encounter. He was at a record store signing when a young fan asked to drink from his water bottle, even though he hadn’t finished it. Finn politely declined, but the fan’s family was upset and accused him of being rude. He found the whole situation bizarre and still thinks about it often.

Matarazzo playfully responded to Finn’s explanation, calling it “the best excuse.” Finn, smiling, elaborated, “It’s not that it’s bothering me, just that I’m still enjoying my drink while you ask.”
