FIFA’s Surprise Post-EA Game Is Nothing Like We Expected

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of virtual football under my belt, the announcement of FIFA Rivals by Mythical Games has certainly piqued my interest. Having grown up with the iconic FIFA series, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with anticipation for this new mobile soccer experience.


FIFA has introduced its initial game following the termination of its partnership with EA: ‘FIFA Rivals’, a soccer adventure on mobile devices, developed by Mythical Games. Expected to debut in summer 2025 for both iOS and Android platforms, this arcade-style game offers players the chance to build and control their own clubs, improving rosters and competing against others. It’s free to play but features optional in-game purchases backed by Mythical’s Mythos blockchain technology.

According to previous remarks by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, there’s a new digital game being worked on. It’s not confirmed whether ‘FIFA Rivals’ is this game, but FIFA has been involved in the gaming world.

1) They’ve teamed up with Konami to turn eFootball into the official game for the FIFAe World Cup. Moreover, they’ve been having talks with Take-Two Interactive and 2K regarding possible licensing deals since the summer of 2024.

There’s chatter that FIFA plans to launch a new video game console edition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but so far, no formal announcements regarding this matter have been made.
