Far Cry Getting Adapted Into Anthology Series at FX

FX has approved a new TV series based on the popular video game Far Cry. The show will be an anthology series, meaning each season will tell a different story within the Far Cry universe.

Noah Hawley, known for shows like Fargo and Alien: Earth, and Rob McElhenney, famous for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Welcome To Wrexham, are the creators of this series. McElhenney will also be acting in it.

Far Cry will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.

FX Turns Far Cry Into a Live-Action Anthology

The show’s creators plan to structure each season like one of the games: a completely new story with a fresh set of characters and a different setting. This approach is similar to how Noah Hawley handles the show Fargo, telling a different story each year while still connecting it to the overall premise.

Hawley described how the show’s format aligns with his creative style. He compared each installment to a season of Fargo, explaining that they all revisit similar ideas. He’s excited to create a large-scale, action-packed series that can evolve each year while consistently examining what it means to be human through a complicated and unpredictable perspective.

McElhenney also highlighted the great teamwork and creative control he had on the project. He called working with Noah Hawley a dream come true, and praised Ubisoft for giving them the freedom to explore one of the most famous video game universes ever made.

FX Confirms Its Ongoing Partnership With Hawley and McElhenney

FX’s leaders highlighted their strong relationships with both creators. Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, stated that FX has collaborated with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley on six shows totaling 32 seasons, and they are thrilled the pair are now working together on Far Cry.

Josh Hawley’s most recent show on FX, Alien: Earth, has been renewed for a second season thanks to its positive reception – it earned a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Rob McElhenney is still producing Welcome to Wrexham, which continues to be a popular show for the network.

Ubisoft’s Blockbuster Franchise Heads to TV

The Far Cry series, which began in 2004, has been played by over 100 million people worldwide. It’s famous for its exciting, action-packed first-person shooting, huge open worlds to explore, and memorable villains. The latest game, Far Cry 6, came out in 2021 and starred Giancarlo Esposito as the character Antón Castillo.

The Far Cry series puts players in the shoes of everyday people caught in dangerous, lawless lands controlled by cruel dictators and groups. In each game, you’ll find yourself struggling to survive, fighting back against oppressive forces, and ultimately trying to defeat a powerful enemy. Each new installment takes place in a different, hostile location where the story focuses on resilience and taking down the dominant villain.

Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney will executive produce the upcoming FX series Far Cry, alongside a team including Emilia Serrano, Nick Frenkel, Jackie Cohn, and John Campisi, as well as representatives from Ubisoft Film & Television. FX Productions is handling production.
