Julia Garner discusses her role as the Silver Surfer in the forthcoming Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four film.
During promotional activities for “Wolf Man”, Garner disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that she anticipates her portrayal of the Silver Surfer will have a shimmering appearance.
I’m not able to share much details about the project, but let me tell you, I feel incredibly fortunate to be involved. The Fantastic Four are truly extraordinary in this production, and I can hardly wait for everyone to see them. As for Silver Surfer, I believe he’ll shine just as brightly as he has in previous versions and the comics.
Why the change?
Rise of the Silver Surfer” and the 1998 animated series. Some people speculate that, similar to how Marvel started introducing more diverse characters after “Avengers: Endgame”, a producer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) decided to change the Silver Surfer into a female character for some reason. This is reminiscent of how the MCU changed the character Taskmaster to a female in the movie “Black Widow”, as I had predicted.
It’s a bit surprising that Garner might presume her version will be glossy, considering she likely knows better. However, it could be that she’s being deliberately mysterious.
There’s been talk that the upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie will primarily focus on Sue Storm and that she feels restricted by Reed Richards. I was informed by my Marvel sources last summer that there might have been some changes in the film’s plot. A heads-up, in case you didn’t know, the Fantastic Four characters in the “Marvel Rivals” game aren’t socially progressive at all.
On the exhilarating note of anticipation, I eagerly await the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25, 2025. This highly anticipated production is helmed by the talented Matt Shakman and boasts an exceptional cast comprising Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
A recent synopsis also mentions both Silver Surfer and Galactus:
Stepping into a pulsating 1960s-reminiscent, futuristic landscape, I’m thrilled to be part of the Marvel Studios’ production of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. This epic journey unfolds as we meet Marvel’s original family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Together, we embark on an unprecedented challenge that promises to test our limits.
Faced with the challenge of upholding their heroic duties alongside the power of their family ties, they find themselves protecting Earth from a destructive cosmic entity known as Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious ally, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). What makes this situation even more dire is that it becomes deeply personal. If the prospect of Galactus consuming the entire planet wasn’t enough, things take a turn for the worse.
