Teresa Palmer is joining the cast of the upcoming live-action ‘God of War’ series on Amazon Prime Video, according to Variety. She will play Sif, a Norse goddess and the wife of Thor. Interestingly, Ryan Hurst, who has already been cast as Kratos, previously provided the voice for Thor in the ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ video game.
Melanie Palmer is an actress who’s well-known for her roles in movies like Hacksaw Ridge, The Fall Guy, I Am Number Four, and Knight of Cups. She’s also been on television in shows like A Discovery of Witches, The Clearing, and Mix Tape. Currently, she’s working on the Australian series, The Family Next Door.
I’m so excited for this new series! It picks up right after the last two God of War games, continuing Kratos and Atreus’ story. They’re embarking on a really emotional journey – scattering the ashes of Faye, who was Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. It’s going to be powerful, continuing their story and relationship.
The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to scatter the ashes of their loved ones, Faye. During their journey, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus hopes to help his father rediscover his humanity.
This series has faced several hurdles before finally reaching production. Amazon initially approved the show in 2022, but the original showrunner, Rafe Judkins, departed in October 2024. Ronald D. Moore then stepped in as the new showrunner, also taking on writing and executive producing duties through his production company, Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E.O. Toye is directing the first two episodes. The show is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.
The God of War series started in 2005 as a PlayStation video game created by David Jaffe and developed by Santa Monica Studio. The early games centered around Kratos and his quest for revenge against the gods of Greek mythology.
The God of War series later focused on stories from Norse mythology, following Kratos as he sought redemption and built a relationship with his son, Atreus. The games have been a huge commercial success for PlayStation, selling over 66 million copies globally and becoming one of their most lucrative franchises. The world of God of War has also grown beyond gaming, with adaptations in novels, comics, and various merchandise.
