As someone who has grown up with Superman comics and movies being a staple of my childhood, I must say that the debate about Homelander‘s abilities against Superman is one that strikes close to home for me.
The archetypal character of Superman, an iconic American superhero, has maintained its popularity over time. However, with the progression towards darker themes in contemporary comic books, authors have sought to subtly modify this original concept, which appears to resonate with readers. It’s important to note that the emergence of Superman marked a significant shift in mainstream American superhero comics, but as you may recall, the idea has continued to evolve since then.
The character of Superman has undergone significant development over time, and the idea itself has been adapted and reimagined in numerous ways. One intriguing twist is the transformation of the concept into an antagonistic role, as seen in characters like Omni-Man from Invincible, the protagonist of Brightburn, various malevolent interpretations of Superman, and, of course, Homelander from The Boys.
Here’s my take: I’m diving into a discussion sparked by the renowned influencer, DanelRPK, about a heated online debate. The topic? The might of Homelander and whether he could stand a chance against Superman, the superhero he imitates. Let’s see who comes out on top!
Prior to sharing our viewpoints, let’s first share some thoughts from the online discussion that sparked this article. The conversation began as follows:

And now the comments:
Like seriously, he’s not THAT powerful. Few supes gang on him and he’s DONE

Initially, he wasn’t weakened; rather, his incredible physical strength drove him to the brink of mental instability. His mental weakness made it unbearable for him to accept his own physical decline with age.

As a gamer, I’ve come to realize that Homelander often struggles due to his constant reliance on raw power rather than honing his fighting skills against equals.

If The Seven functioned harmoniously as a team, they would undoubtedly bring an end to Homelander; however, since this is a television series, the writers need to depict Homelander engaging in individual encounters instead.

He was really nerfed as the show went on. In the beginning he was cunning, strong, brutal.

Or maybe he’s holding back and didn’t want to kill her.

In our view, it’s highly unlikely that Homelander can overpower Superman. While Homelander is formidable, he’s artificially enhanced and has significant limitations compared to Superman. Unlike Homelander, who was created through an experiment, Superman’s powers are inherent. Although Superman does have a notable weakness, his vast array of abilities and hidden tactics make him a formidable opponent for Homelander. In terms of raw physical power, they might be evenly matched, but Superman outshines Homelander in every other aspect.
