Fan Theory Provides a Way to Save both ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ and the ‘Eternals’ Through Knull

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast who has weathered both triumphs and tribulations in the MCU, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The return of Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers is a testament to the enduring power of these characters and their stories. While Doctor Doom has been confirmed as the primary antagonist, the intriguing fan theory about Knull’s role has piqued my interest.

The two key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies expected to rectify current storylines and pave the way for a fresh MCU phase are tentatively titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These films are scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027. Fingers are crossed that these productions will be massive successes, as they are highly anticipated.

In these two movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe re-enlisted Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers. While it’s no secret that Doctor Doom is the main adversary, recent updates might suggest additional villain scenarios for the future.

In the finale of “Venom: The Last Dance,” it was hinted that the villain Knull could pose a danger in the future. This intriguing fan theory suggests that Knull may play a crucial role in shaping the future, potentially even reviving two underperforming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. The idea is captivating!

The theory we’ve uncovered from Reddit suggests a connection between Knull and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). User PimHazDa proposes a scenario where Knull might enter the MCU, and outlines an intriguing method to link him with two previous MCU setbacks in a way that maximizes coherence.

In the comics, Gorr wields the necrosword in Thor: Love and Thunder, which was bestowed upon him by Knull. This movie seems to establish a relationship between celestials and gods. Here’s my take on your theory: Since Knull is an adversary of the celestials who aims to eliminate them and disrupt the cosmic balance, it’s possible that he may show up in either the next or upcoming Eternals film. Given this connection, I speculate that Venom and Spiderman might collaborate with some of the Eternals due to the symbiotes’ hive mind link. Alternatively, the events involving Knull could lead to Venom being introduced in the MCU for a standalone Spiderman film separate from the Eternals.

Regarding the theory itself, it doesn’t seem likely that events will unfold in this manner, but we believe it’s a strong concept. If the Marvel Cinematic Universe chooses to follow a similar approach as suggested by this theory, it could be incredibly effective and potentially revive two significant franchises.

It’s widely understood that Knull has a significant connection with the Celestials. With the disappointing performance of the Eternals, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to require a more substantial element to revitalize it. Linking Knull could potentially be the solution, as he not only represents a valuable asset for Marvel, but also currently generates a lot of excitement due to Sony’s work in the Venom trilogy.

Regarding Thor, it’s disappointing that the MCU portrayed Gorr in such a poor movie. Many fans consider Gorr one of Marvel’s finest villains recently, so seeing him squandered like this is upsetting. The film was lackluster, but what hurts even more is the way the MCU mishandled Gorr by not giving him a fair representation in such a film. However, if Knull enters the story connected to the Necrosword as the theory suggests, there’s potential for Gorr to have a greater role and for the issues with “Thor: Love & Thunder” to be addressed.
