Fan Petition to Save THE ACOLYTE Gains Momentum

As a seasoned Star Wars fan who’s been through the highs and lows of fandom since the original trilogy graced our screens, I can’t help but feel a sense of familiar anticipation with the recent cancellation of The Acolyte. It’s like the Force is calling us once again to unite in the name of quality storytelling.

Since Lucasfilm announced the cancellation of The Acolyte, fans of the show have mobilized online, as they often do when a beloved series is prematurely axed. However, when it comes to Star Wars devotees, they can summon the Force on their side. As a result, there’s already a Change.org petition circulating to bring back the show for another season. If you’d like Lucasfilm and Disney to hear your desire for more of The Acolyte, here’s the link to sign it and express your interest in exploring the High Republic world on Disney+ further.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the unresolved tales of Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and the enigmatic dark side warrior, “the Stranger” (Manny Jacinto), following the conclusion of The Acolyte. The cliffhangers left behind in the series finale have sparked my curiosity, particularly concerning the mysterious connections between Darth Plagueis, who made a brief appearance in Star Wars canon, and the Stranger, as well as the Stranger’s possible ties to the Knights of Ren. It’s high time for these stories to be brought to life on-screen instead of being confined to spin-off materials; fans like myself deserve answers to these intriguing questions!

Despite skepticism from some, online petitions do have the power to bring about change, as demonstrated by the success stories of several popular shows. For instance, executives at Paramount+ admitted that fan-initiated petitions for a Captain Pike spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery were instrumental in creating Strange New Worlds. Similarly, persistent online campaigns led to the revival of both Futurama and Veronica Mars. Even before the internet was widely used, passionate fans managed to save Star Trek by sending nearly a million hand-written letters to NBC. This historic fan movement led to the renewal of the show for season three. In the spirit of “hope” that is central to Star Wars, fans should not lose heart just yet.
