Every console generation has a few games that really capture the spirit of the time. Think of classics like GoldenEye and Ocarina of Time on the N64, or Bloodborne and Red Dead Redemption II on the PS4 – it’s always interesting to remember the games that defined a particular era. The early 2000s were a golden age for consoles, with the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and original Xbox all being incredibly popular. While each console had its own exclusive hits, one game stood out by appearing on all three and remains beloved today: The Simpsons: Hit & Run. It’s widely considered the best Simpsons video game ever made, striking a perfect balance between challenging gameplay and hilarious humor.
Unfortunately, the show never got its own spin-off game – at least, not officially. However, that’s changing thanks to Futurama Hit & Run, an amazing fan-made mod.
Great news! The demo for Futurama Hit & Run will be available on October 19th! It’s a fantastic idea!

We learned about this through IGN. A fan-made mod lets you play as Philip J. Fry in a fully functional recreation of New New York. You’ll complete deliveries and tasks for familiar faces from Planet Express, like Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, and Bender. Created by LycheeMoona, the mod is incredibly true to the original game and packed with fun visual nods for fans of Futurama – and if you haven’t seen Futurama, you really should, it’s a fantastic show!
So, I’ve been checking out this mod, and right now it’s got four story missions, which is a cool start. The creators are definitely planning to add more, though! One thing they’re upfront about is the dialogue – it’s currently AI-generated, but they’re already working with professional voice actors to record new lines. They’ve said those will be swapped in with a future update, which is fantastic to hear – it’ll really elevate the experience.
You can download the mod now, but you’ll need to own the PC version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run to use it. It’s impressive to see this dedication to updating a game that’s 22 years old to match a cartoon that originally aired 26 years ago.
