On January 6th, Drew Goins reappeared on Jeopardy. Fans of the game show were thrilled by his return. Drew had last appeared on the program in September 2024, and four months later, he faced off against Eugene and Jonquil Garrick Reynolds, who were both contestants from Ottawa.
In my second appearance on the game show, I stepped into the final week of the Second Chance tournament. Additionally, I was granted a chance to rectify the Taylor Swift question that had previously stumped me.
In a smooth reentry into the game, the Honolulu-based journalist, Goins, excelled in the initial two rounds with an impressive grasp. Moreover, he successfully achieved his first Daily Double win in the Historical Events category. His response to the question, “The 1973 Arab-Israeli War occurred during these two periods, one Jewish and one Islamic, both of which involve fasting,” correctly identified Ramadan and Yom Kippur as the answers.
During Ken Jennings’ interview round, a contestant struggled with a Taylor Swift query. Admiting his error, Goins confessed, “I answered a Taylor Swift question incorrectly. I fretted that Swift fans would burst into my room at night, but it was my own brother – who is here today – who turned out to be the angry fan.
He added, “The night before taping, he had prepared an entire practice board for me.”
Given his good fortune, he received an opportunity for a comeback; the riddle posed to him was, “What album did Taylor Swift release in a year other than 2014?
In response to the question “What year was 1989?”, Goins replied accurately. Jennings confirmed this, causing the audience to erupt in joy.
