Famke Janssen has stated she doesn’t intend to reprise her role as Jean Grey in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. In a recent conversation with Kristian Harloff, Janssen discussed her career, what she’s working on next, and her thoughts on revisiting the iconic X-Men character that brought her recognition.
Janssen stated she hasn’t heard from Marvel about being in one of their movies and doesn’t want to be involved, even if they did reach out.
She’s now prioritizing projects that allow her more creative freedom and control. With her new Netflix series, Amsterdam Empire, she’s taking on a larger role behind the camera. She explained to Harloff that she wouldn’t be asked to return to shows like Doomsday because those productions don’t want her input in that capacity.
Honestly, as a fan, it sounds like Sophie Turner really doesn’t want to revisit her role as Jean Grey, and I totally get it. She’s expressed wanting to focus on new projects and move ahead with her career, rather than repeating past roles. It’s good she’s prioritizing what’s next for her.
She explained that she’s moved past dwelling on past roles or hoping for small parts. After working on eighty films, she feels she’s earned her current success and is fully embracing the opportunities in front of her. She’s no longer interested in looking back; she’s focused on moving forward.
The actress hasn’t said no to appearing in a large ensemble film like Avengers: Doomsday if the role was a good fit. She shared that she’s always looking for projects that allow her to be creatively challenged and explore different acting avenues. She recently finished filming One Second After in Bulgaria, where she also designed her own costumes.
I’m really excited about adding these new creative outlets to my life. It feels amazing to be able to focus on making things – I’m always searching for ways to express myself and build something new, and this really lets me do that.
Janssen’s main goal is to give her characters, like Jean Grey, substantial parts in the story, rather than just brief cameos to appeal to fans’ memories. She’s happy with her work and is determined to continue growing her career independently.
