As a dedicated follower who has witnessed numerous celebrity scandals and their aftermaths over the years, I find it disheartening to see yet another instance of alleged abuse of power within Hollywood. The claim that Blake Lively’s co-star Justin Baldoni engaged in sexual harassment and orchestrated an online smear campaign against her is deeply concerning.
Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of sexual abuse.
In simpler terms, Blake Lively took legal action against her colleague Justin Baldoni from the film “It Ends With Us,” alleging instances of sexual harassment and initiating a malicious online reputation attack on her.
According to her legal team’s recent filing, it is alleged that the actor/director reportedly employed a critical social media post about Hailey Bieber as a model for his PR team to retaliate similarly against Lively, as suggested in the lawsuit.
The Green Lantern actress’s sexual harassment lawsuit used a series of private messages as an exhibit. It showed Baldoni’s text and email exchanges with PR executive Jennifer Abel and crisis management expert Melissa Nathan as they planned Lively’s alleged smear campaign to “destroy” her reputation.
Nevertheless, Bryan Freedman, the attorney for the actor on Jane The Virgin, refuted the accusations. In a statement given to People magazine, he labeled the allegations as “unfounded, scandalous, and deliberately sensationalized with the intention of causing harm to his public image.
In one of the exchanges, Baldoni allegedly texted a screenshot of a post on X (formerly Twitter) about Bieber, titled “Hailey Bieber’s history of bullying many women.”
“This is what we would need,” he wrote in the text to Abel. “Yes, I literally just spoke to Melissa about this on the break about what we discussed last night for social and digital. Focus on Reddit, TikTok, [Instagram],” she replied.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: In a recent dispute, Abel allegedly confided in Nathan about Lively being difficult to collaborate with, using the phrase “plant pieces.” Nathan, in agreement, expressed readiness and mentioned that one of their journalist friends was eagerly waiting to join them in what appears to be an unfavorable portrayal or campaign against Lively, as suggested in the complaint.
In one of Lively’s alleged lawsuits filed in California, she claimed to suffer “grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety” because of Baldoni’s behavior behind closed doors. “The emotional impact on Ms. Lively has been extreme, not only affecting her, but her family, including her husband and four children,” the lawsuit claimed.
During discussions among the film’s team, including Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds, there were numerous meetings regarding the actress’ accusations about inappropriate behavior towards her, as stated in the complaint. The actress reportedly requested safeguards to prevent “improvised kissing scenes,” “unwanted personal, physical contact,” and “sexually charged comments” from Baldoni.
