Factorio players on Nintendo Switch will get a free upgrade to the game when the Switch 2 launches later this year, offering a better experience on the new hardware. The Space Age expansion, which isn’t currently available on the original Switch due to its technical constraints, will also be released for the Switch 2.
Factorio on the Switch 2 will look and play better than ever! In handheld mode, it’ll support a crisp 1080p resolution, and when docked, it can go up to 4K. The game will also take advantage of the console’s variable refresh rate for smoother visuals, and include improved graphics with higher quality animations. Loading times will be faster, and you’ll be able to build even larger factories. Plus, you can use the Joy-Con controllers as a mouse for precise control.
The game Space Age will cost $35 on the Switch 2 and will be the same as the PC version, with no compromises in features or content. According to the developer, the Switch 2 is powerful enough to run the game smoothly – achieving 60 frames per second and 60 updates per second – as long as you don’t build excessively complex structures.
Wube Software is targeting a December 2025 release for the Switch 2 update and the Space Age DLC. However, they’re hesitant to make a firm commitment because Nintendo’s approval process can sometimes cause delays.
