Ezra Miller’s Grooming Charges Have Been Cleared, Can We Hope to See Them as Flash in the DCU?

As a gamer who’s seen more than my fair share of reboots and resurgences, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and apprehension when it comes to Ezra Miller and their potential return as The Flash in the new DCU.

In other words, the DCEU faced criticism even without considering the personal issues of its cast members, and Ezra Miller emerged as one of the most significant hurdles as the film universe concluded its run.

In the film “Batman v Superman,” Miller first appeared as The Flash, making a brief appearance. They went on to star in several other movies and even had their own standalone film titled “The Flash” which functioned as a reboot for the DCEU, utilizing the Flashpoint storyline.

1. The film experienced numerous protests from both supporters and non-supporters primarily because of Ezra Miller’s legal controversies. The actor found himself entangled in multiple incidents, such as disorderly conduct, a choking incident, harassment claims, burglary accusations, and various other problems in Hawaii and Vermont. Nevertheless, the most detrimental allegation was the grooming charges against Miller. (Paraphrased)

In June 2022, the tribal court of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe temporarily protected Miller following a request from the parents of activist Tokata Iron Eyes, who was 18 at the time. They asserted that Miller had exercised control over their daughter by employing violence, manipulation, and drugs since she was 12. However, Tokata denied these accusations on social media, with her parents suspecting they did not manage her accounts independently. The bid for a permanent protection order ultimately failed. Later, Miller faced criticism for verbally abusing Tokata and presenting themselves as a divine figure to Native Americans, despite lacking Indigenous heritage.

After the allegations, Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, later clarified that he withdrew the complaint once he understood he had been deceived. He elaborated that his initial conviction was based on a tale that has since been retracted. Currently, Chase supports the group that Tokata and Miller belong to and is prepared to leave the controversy behind.

There’s a reason I support [Hundred in the Hand] and I don’t feel like I owe an explanation but after we hosted a party in Santa Fe we received some feedback. When you live your life under a public (tribal and non tribal) microscope of critique sometimes it seems it’s only the critique that makes its way through,I want to offer this on the drama 3 years ago when I filed a petition and claimed that Ezra appeared to have ‘groomed’ Tokata. I made that statement in my pleading (in a time of absolute war) based on information from a witness who then recanted and said nothing happened that they could infer anything inappropriate from. Thus, I immediately withdrew the court filings.

Currently, we’re making every effort to progress, to mend relationships, and to heal, all while continuing to be supportive as a father. As long as Tokata is well, everything is fine for us. These are genuine individuals leading authentic lives, and once you’re immersed in such a fiery situation where there’s no anonymity or safe haven, it can be quite disconcerting and not something one would wish upon themselves. It requires immense courage to step back into the heat of things again.

Now that the legal issues surrounding Ezra Miller’s grooming charges have been resolved, some fans are wondering if Miller might reappear in the DCU as The Flash. While the comics storyline “Flashpoint” could potentially be employed to bring Miller back as The Flash in the revamped DCU, it seems rather improbable. This isn’t due to Miller’s subpar performance as The Flash—quite the contrary, they were excellent—but because of the ongoing scandals that continue to swirl around them.

Back then, it was no secret that I’d been facing some serious legal issues – not just the controversy over the fees, but also accusations of violence, mind control, burglary, and harassment. Now, considering the potential fallout, it seems James Gunn might be thinking about moving on from Miller, possibly opting for a fresh face to breathe new life into the character.

In the final stages, the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) received a lot of harsh criticism, partly due to their decision not to replace actors who were problematic. The case of Miller is just one illustration, with the controversy over Amber Heard returning as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being another example.
