As an ardent fan of Michelle Yeoh, I find myself utterly enamored by her grace, talent, and humility. Her recent interview about her experience singing alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in Wicked is a testament to her extraordinary spirit.
In a candid chat with TopMob, Michelle Yeoh, set to portray Madam Morrible in the forthcoming film Wicked, has shared insights into her experience collaborating musically with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Upon being queried about any stress she encountered performing alongside such gifted vocalists, Michelle offered a self-effacing and witty reply.
She jokingly remarked, “There’s no stress here, I’m surrounded by some of the best vocalists in the world. What’s there to worry about? Just take the leap if you doubt yourself. They’ve got your back.” She admitted that initially, singing for the movie seemed overwhelming, but she was determined to face it head-on. “Of course, it was intimidating at first. But when you accept a challenge, you make sure to do everything right. You prepare for it. If I were to perform an action sequence, I’d train for it. Since it’s singing, they found me a skilled coach,” she clarified.
Michelle acknowledged that her vocal coach was instrumental in making her learning experience both enjoyable and productive. “Dominic introduced me to a great coach who made the entire process fun and beneficial,” she mentioned. “I’ve retained valuable lessons from this experience that continue to aid my voice today,” she added. She also expressed her gratitude for the chance to step out of her comfort zone, saying, “I am thankful for having been given this challenge and opportunity. I haven’t watched the movie yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Please don’t wince when you see me singing.
When queried about her intentions regarding future musicals, Michelle replied, “Well, there’s a potential sequel to ‘Wicked,’ you know.
During the private conversation, Michelle reminisced about her 2023 Best Actress Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All at Once. She discussed how being involved in the production of Wicked kept her humble during the turmoil.
The initial segment of the production titled “Wicked,” which features Michelle Yeoh in the role of Madame Morrible, Ariana Grande portraying Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, is scheduled to debut on November 22, 2024.
