As an ardent admirer of Michelle Yeoh, I have been captivated by her incredible journey in the world of cinema. Yet, even the most seasoned actors face challenges that test their limits, and for Yeoh, it was the daunting task of singing alongside vocal powerhouses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in “Wicked.
Michelle Yeoh is a major star within the entertainment industry today, yet occasionally she encounters hurdles that demand her overcoming to excel in her performances. For instance, her character Madame Morrible in Wicked posed such a challenge; while Yeoh’s acting skills are well-rounded, singing alongside powerhouse vocalists like Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande presented an especially tough test for the actress.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob, Yeoh candidly discusses the obstacle she faced and her approach to overcoming it. She humorously quipped, “Of course not, no pressure at all. I mean, I’m working alongside some of the best singers in the world, so what’s a little stress?” She admitted that when she felt uncertain, she simply encouraged them, saying, “They’ve always got my back.
62-year-old actress expressed that tackling challenges directly is the key, stating “It was intimidating, naturally, but after taking up the challenge, you ensure you take all necessary measures.” The Academy Award recipient further explained her approach to such situations as preparing for them. She elaborated, “If I need to perform an action scene, I train for it, if I have to sing, Dominic (the organizer of Wicked’s music) helped me find a fantastic coach.
According to her, this experience made the entire process enjoyable and taught her lessons that she still cherishes today, furthermore stating, “It aids my vocal performance.” Yeoh expresses her appreciation for the chance to perform with Grande and Erivo.
Despite having made all the necessary preparations, Michelle is still taking steps to avoid feeling uncomfortable or awkward when she eventually watches herself perform in the musical.
One of the most anticipated films this year is “Wicked,” which adapts the renowned Broadway musical for the big screen. The talented ensemble cast, featuring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Dinklage, are set to captivate audiences in cinemas on November 22nd.
