As a die-hard fan of cinematography, I’m thrilled to share that the filming for the highly anticipated DCU Green Lantern series, titled “Lanterns,” is in full swing! Recently, Garret Dillahunt, one of the cast members, has been generously sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from pre-production on his social media platforms. The anticipation is building, and I can hardly wait to see more!
On Tuesday, the actor shared that they were conducting a camera test, featuring the seats where Kelly MacDonald, himself, and Kyle Chandler were supposed to sit.
Another photo gives a sneak peek into the production set. “It’s camera test day,” Dillahunt shared, accompanied by, “Let’s do this, Los Angeles!
What is a camera test?
A camera test is an early phase in movie-making where various elements like actors, costumes, makeup, lighting, and camera positions are evaluated prior to the main filming. This step allows directors, cameramen, and production staff to assess how these elements will appear on screen and make any necessary changes before the actual production begins.

Who is Garret Dillahunt playing?
Garret Dillahunt’s recent post (above) seems to offer a glimpse into the character he plays in Lanterns, William Macon. This character appears to be leaning towards the antagonist role. He is depicted as a contemporary cowboy, and also as a man who is self-righteous and conspiracy-prone, using his charm and calculated demeanor to hide his relentless ambition.
Who stars in Lanterns?
In the upcoming production, Kyle Chandler takes on the role of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, while Aaron Pierre portrays another Green Lantern character, John Stewart. Kelly MacDonald assumes the role of Sheriff Kerry, and Poorna Jagannathan is cast as Zoe, who may develop romantic ties with John. Notably, it has been announced that Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen will bring Sinestro to life within the DC Universe.
Behind the scenes
Chris Mundy is the showrunner, with the series written by Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
At the latest NYCC, Gunn shared that “Chris, Damon, and Tom” have collaboratively constructed a new project. He noted that from its conception, it has been fortunate, as he mentioned that during the early stages of the DCU, a group of writers, including Tom King, were gathered together within the first few weeks to brainstorm ideas for this project.
Gunn went on to explain, “We were in this room brainstorming, and we developed an idea for Lanterns. We brought Chris and Damon into the mix, and it’s flowed quite effortlessly, feeling incredibly organic. This series is going to be remarkably grounded and realistic – a surprising claim for a Green Lantern show, but it’s going to offer an experience unlike any other. I can hardly wait for viewers to witness it on HBO when it airs.
