On the 10th of July, 2025, I was thrilled to learn that Exchange Traded Concepts had sold a massive chunk of iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), totaling an impressive $69.5 million based on each share’s value, as per their recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

ETF snapshot
Investment instruments known as Bitcoin Tracker Shares allow you to follow the price fluctuations of Bitcoin (BTC), giving you access to this digital currency indirectly, without needing to own it directly yourself.
Manages an investment fund that earns income primarily from management fees and charges based on the assets it holds.
Attracts investors such as institutions, financial consultants, and individual investors who are interested in secure, stock exchange-traded Bitcoin investment solutions that comply with regulations.
Investing in the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF offers a simple method for tracking Bitcoin price fluctuations through a secure, exchange-traded platform. With its large size and high liquidity, it stands out as an attractive option for investors aiming to access the digital asset market conveniently, avoiding the complexities associated with direct cryptocurrency storage or trading.
Foolish take
Instead of typically fitting the long-term Bitcoin investor profile, Exchange Traded Concepts, with a heavy emphasis on safer investments like Apple and two large S&P 500 index funds, doesn’t align with the conventional image of such investors.
As per the latest 13F reports, the firm significantly increased its investment in the Bitcoin ETF during the first three months. By the end of the second quarter, Exchange Traded Concepts returned to a similar ownership level in relation to the Bitcoin ETF as it had at the close of 2024.
Instead of frequently buying and selling a turbulent digital currency such as Bitcoin, I prefer maintaining a stable, long-term investment without frequent transactions. While some cryptocurrency investors may view a quarter as an extended period, my concept of long-term investment extends over years and even decades.
In the heart of summer 2025, my own decision to invest modestly in Bitcoin seems like a missed opportunity, given its phenomenal growth. Over the past year, this digital gold has more than doubled, and in just the last three months, it’s seen a staggering 40% surge! The launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs has only fueled its meteoric rise.
In other words, considering the volatile nature of our current economy, investing in cryptocurrencies might not be a poor decision in the future. It remains to be seen if Exchange Traded Concepts would benefit from having less Bitcoin investment over the long term.
Indeed, it’s quite possible that the company is currently purchasing shares of this ETF. The urge to sell at a low point and buy when an investment like a stock or ETF becomes popular isn’t exclusive to individual investors; even professional money managers can fall into this trap. We’ll find out if this is happening here by examining Exchange Traded Concepts’ next 13F filing.
