Ewan McGregor Remains Optimistic About Returning to Star Wars: “I Really Do Hope We Get a Chance”

As a diehard Star Wars fan who has grown up with Obi-Wan Kenobi as one of my favorite characters, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement every time Ewan McGregor expresses his desire to reprise his role. With 25 years of experience under his belt, McGregor has become synonymous with the wise and noble Jedi Knight, and his passion for the character is truly inspiring.

The widely recognized and cherished Star Wars series is home to an extensive cast of characters, among them, Obi-Wan Kenobi stands out as a fan favorite. Known for his unwavering commitment to justice and adherence to the Jedi Code, even in challenging situations, Obi-Wan embodies the essence of a true Jedi, with profound philosophical beliefs. Although the character has been played by two actors during different periods, Ewan McGregor is generally who comes to mind for many fans today.

McGregor, having played Obi-Wan for a span of 25 years, maintains optimism regarding reprising the role even after the end of his recent show. He thinks there are yet untold tales left and keeps faith in potential upcoming chances.

In a recent interview with Variety, the Trainspotting actor reiterated his desire to reprise his role as Obi-Wan.

I’m eagerly looking forward to the possibility of continuing our storyline, especially considering the gap between the last episode and Alec Guinness’ appearance alongside Luke Skywalker. It seems there are more tales yet untold within that timeframe.

McGregor has shown interest in another season of his standalone show before, and recently, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy hinted that while a second season isn’t impossible, it’s unlikely at this point due to the abundance of fresh Star Wars content revealed during the Star Wars Celebration event.

While there’s an enticing possibility for a second season, it remains to be seen if it will actually happen. There’s approximately a decade worth of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s solitary existence on Tatooine between the end of Season 1 and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Diving into these years of Kenobi’s exile could prove incredibly intriguing.

Not only McGregor, but also Hayden Christensen has voiced their support for McGregor’s wish to reclaim the role.

If having more opportunities with Ewan is on the table, it’s an obvious choice for me. However, I genuinely hope he’ll keep playing the character. As a fan, watching him as Obi-Wan is simply thrilling, and he truly excels in this role.
