As an ardent fan of Evil, I must say that the finale was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The series has been my guilty pleasure since its inception and the final season did not disappoint. The suspense, the twists, and the emotional highs and lows kept me hooked till the very end.
The popular supernatural TV series Evil, which originally aired on CBS and is now available on Paramount+, has concluded its fourth season, leaving viewers pondering various unresolved questions. Although the final episode of the 14th installment also serves as the series finale, the thoughtful conclusion has undeniably left fans eager for more. The show’s enigmatic ending is filled with subtle, puzzling hints that may confuse some, but here’s a clearer understanding to help you appreciate the storyline’s open-ended nature.
Is Timothy Antichrist?
One of the most fascinating aspects of the narrative happened in the series finale, when Timothy, the baby, showed signs of evil. Dr. Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist played by Katja Herbers, moves to Rome for six months with her family. She attempted to help David Acosta (Mike Colter) start up a new assessor program for the Vatican. However, the narrative took a sinister turn as Timothy showed a series of ominous signs of evil in him.
In an attempt to conceal Timothy’s sinister smile reminiscent of a demon from the priest, Kristen used a pacifier. This scene raises curiosity about why Kristen shielded Timothy, given his apparent wickedness. In an interview with Deadline, series co-creators Robert and Michelle King shed light on their motivations for this scene. According to Robert King, it was crucial to defend particular characters even when they displayed evil tendencies; “you protect them because you’re invested in the show,” he explained.
In response to the discussion, Michelle King explained that the scene was not implying that baptism would completely heal the baby. She humorously asked if viewers might wonder if the baby is actually the Antichrist. Speaking with Deadline, she clarified that baptism could only reveal 95% of the character’s goodness, much like some medications that address 95% of symptoms but still leave a small portion of the problem unsolved.
Fundamentally, she acted on her maternal intuition to safeguard her child by concealing the symptoms from David. However, the unforeseen revelation that Timothy was the antichrist took many viewers aback with its powerful impact.
What happened to the primary characters in the Evil Season finale?
Apart from leaving fans on edge about the antichrist’s fate, the series wrapped up with a major cliffhanger, and it appears unlikely that the show will continue for another season. Regrettably, there seems to be little hope for a renewal. However, if no positive news arrives, here is how the main characters’ stories concluded in the show.
Kristen finally faced off against Leland, knocking him unconscious. She was inches away from killing him but Ben and David somehow convinced her to spare him. Later, as mentioned above, she moved to Rome, where she found the demonic presence in Timothy. It appears that The 60 is still after her.
David fulfilled his divine duty by shielding Kristen. He spoke out against discontinuing the assessor’s program and later worked to persuade the Vatican to reopen the program in Rome. The show concluded with David being oblivious to the malevolent influence in Timothy, a secret that Kristen also concealed from him.
Eventually, Ben discovered that the virtual reality game was causing deep sadness and wretchedness in its users. With his work now stable, he opted against joining others for a trip to Rome.
According to the creators’ plan, Leland managed to dodge death during his final confrontation with Kristen. However, she ultimately chose not to keep him imprisoned after being persuaded by David and Ben. In the end, Leland found himself unwillingly confined within a monastery. His latest whereabouts indicate he was trapped inside a storage cabinet, making any potential escape appear highly improbable at this time.
Once more, viewers might ponder if David and Kristen found their romantic resolution on the show, as it did not explicitly provide any answers in this regard. However, David openly declared his affection for Kristen before Ben, while simultaneously stating that he would not abandon his priestly duties. Furthermore, they have yet to share a kiss.
Discussing their unique dynamic, Robert King shared with TV Line that this element enriched the storyline and even influenced how we perceive them. He emphasized that his character’s determination to make choices and stand by them is just as essential to his personality as developing feelings for Kristen. However, he can still maintain a friendship with her.
The co-creator of the series mentioned that the attraction between the two characters will persist, as “the temptation won’t vanish easily” since “it’s hard to switch it off completely when there’s such intense passion between them.”
Unfortunately, it’s disappointing that fans won’t get to witness the cast reunite again since the series has been permanently concluded on Paramount+. The final season of the show wrapped up spectacularly, earning a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its climactic episode.
Evil can be streamed on Paramount+.
