The 2023 film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was a massive success, earning over $1.36 billion worldwide. Given the incredible popularity of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, there’s a lot of anticipation for the sequel, The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie. However, most people expect it to be another blockbuster – easily surpassing a billion dollars at the box office, particularly after seeing the first trailer.

Here’s everything we know so far about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Title

The movie, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is based on the popular Nintendo Wii games Super Mario Galaxy (2007) and its 2010 sequel, both known for their space settings and unique gravity mechanics.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Plot

An official plot summary for the movie isn’t available yet, but it looks like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and other heroes will be battling Bowser Jr. Similar to the games, the story will take them to various planets with unique environments, and they’ll encounter Princess Rosalina and her star-shaped companions, the Lumas.

In this game, the famous plumber journeys across space, gathering Power Stars to fuel his ship. His goal is to reach the universe’s core and rescue Princess Peach from the clutches of the villainous Bowser.

Behind the Scenes

The upcoming film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the same team behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While Pierre Leduc, an animator on the first film, won’t be directing this time, Matthew Fogel returns as the screenwriter, having also written the previous movie.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Cast

The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie brings back Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Jack Black as Bowser. This time, Brie Larson, an Academy Award winner, joins the cast as Princess Rosalina, and surprisingly, respected director Benny Safdie will voice Bowser Jr. Safdie is known for working on both mainstream comedies and more serious, independent films.
