Having lived through the trials and triumphs of Percy’s adventures in my imagination, it’s a dream come true to see them being brought to life on screen.
As a lifestyle expert enthusiastically discussing the latest updates on entertainment, I’m thrilled to share that Disney+ has greenlit another season for Percy Jackson and the Olympians! This exciting news was unveiled in February 2024, ensuring fans like us will witness the live-action adaptation of Rick Riordan’s second book, The Sea of Monsters. Here’s a rundown of what we know so far about Season 2.
2024’s D23 Excitement! Disney’s dropped a bomb: Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is heading our way in 2025! Though they haven’t nailed down an exact release date, production’s been buzzing like Zeus’ thunderbolt. Cameras started rolling earlier this year in Vancouver, and by the time D23 Expo rolled around, a week of filming was already under my belt! Can’t wait to see more, oh Olympian gods!
In Season 2, the narrative will be based on Riordan’s second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, titled The Sea of Monsters. Our protagonist, Percy Jackson, embarks on a dangerous mission across the treacherous Sea of Monsters to save his companion Grover. Grover was captured during his search for the god Pan. Notably, the captor of Grover is the same Cyclops who had previously trapped Odysseus in an earlier tale.
Viewers can anticipate notable scenes from the book to be incorporated into the series, as hinted during D23 by Scobell, Riordan, and co-stars Leah Sava Jeffries (portraying Annabeth) and Aryan Simhadri (playing Grover. They suggested that amusing instances such as Grover in a wedding dress and the deepening romantic feelings between Percy and Annabeth will be featured.
In Season 2, we meet several fresh faces and acting changes. Daniel Diemer takes on the role of Tyson, who is Percy’s half-brother and a Cyclops, with both of them having Poseidon (played by Toby Stephens in Season 1) as their father. Tamara Smart has been chosen to play Thalia Grace, the child of Zeus, while Andra Day steps into the character of Athena, who is Annabeth’s mother.
Courtney B. Vance is set to assume the part previously held by the late Lance Reddick as Zeus, who was featured in Season 1. Executive producer Jon Steinberg recognized the difficulty of replacing such an iconic role, stating, “We’re deeply appreciative for the character Lance brought to life. I can’t even imagine the task facing whoever takes up his mantle.
In the show, the time of year additionally brings forth the Gray Sisters – an intriguing trio running a specialized taxi business. Actresses Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho will be taking on these roles, with each sister having a single eye and playing unique parts within their cab company.

A fresh development includes the introduction of Timothy Simons in the role of Tantalus, temporarily filling the director position at Camp Half-Blood while Chiron is absent under strange circumstances. The atmosphere at the camp may change significantly as Tantalus begins to exert his influence.
