James Gunn’s Superman quickly became the most popular superhero film of 2025, marking the official start of the new DC Universe in theaters. The story will continue in 2027 with a new film, which DC Studios is calling the next installment in the “Super Family Saga.” Here’s everything we’ve learned so far about the return of Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, to the big screen.
Title
The next Superman movie is officially titled Man of Tomorrow, not Superman: Man of Tomorrow, as some people thought. James Gunn has explained that the film will focus on Lex Luthor just as much as it does on Superman.
Man of Tomorrow’s Plot
The next Superman movie will feature an unlikely alliance: Superman and Lex Luthor will have to work together to defeat Brainiac, a powerful and tyrannical alien robot. Early artwork from Jim Lee reveals that Lex Luthor will be sporting his iconic, comic book-style battlesuit in the film.
Behind-the-Scenes
James Gunn, one of the heads of DC Studios, is writing and directing the sequel. John Murphy and David Fleming are also likely to return to compose the music.
Man of Tomorrow’s Cast
Many of the actors from the first Superman movie are reprising their roles in Man of Tomorrow. David Corenswet will return as Superman and Clark Kent, and Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, while Frank Grillo will once again be Rick Flag Sr. The majority of the Daily Planet team is also expected to return, including Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant. Finally, German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as the villain Brainiac.
Isabel Merced will reprise her role as Hawkgirl. While it hasn’t been officially announced, we’re anticipating the return of Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. Storyboards from the Superman movie suggest Supergirl (Milly Alcock) will also be involved. And fans will likely be upset if Krypto the Superdog doesn’t make an appearance!

The official release date for DC Studios’ Man of Tomorrow is July 9, 2027.
