‘Everything Was Riding On Her Performance’: Julia Stiles Recalls Working Experience With Julia Roberts On Sets Of Mona Lisa Smile

Julia Stiles admires Julia Roberts as her role model. The actress from 10 Things I Hate About You and Roberts have worked together in the film Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Reflecting on her experience with Roberts, Stiles shared that she was struck by Roberts’ nurturing qualities, as she looked after all the girls on set.

On a recent chat with Andy Cohen during his Watch What Happens Live show, I shared my experience working alongside this seasoned actor on The Prince & Me set. I expressed how he stood out as one of the kindest and most generous individuals I’ve encountered while filming.

In the podcast discussion, she asserted, “She looked after every girl on that film set more than what was required of her.” The actress also mentioned, “The success of the movie heavily relied on [Roberts]—she’s a prominent star; the entire production depended upon her acting in this film.

Stiles went on to express, “Despite everything, she made a point to show kindness and generosity towards every young woman involved.

In the film, Stiles took up the part of Joan Brandwyn, while Roberts assumed the role of Katherine Watson. The plot primarily focuses on Watson, a teacher at a women’s college, who challenges traditional gender roles and outdated social norms for women.

Furthermore, Stiles also expressed admiration for actresses like Angela Bassett, whom she encountered during the 2008 production of Gospel Hill. She gushed, “Wow, she’s so majestic, dignified, and powerful.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be making my directorial debut with the film “Wish You Were Here.” This cinematic journey is set to premiere on our screens, gracing us with its presence on January 17.
