I recently came across an exciting event where Jennifer Aniston, 55, and Whoopi Goldberg, 68, crossed paths. Though they initially enjoyed the show separately, accompanied by their respective companions – Aniston with her friends and Goldberg with Sara Haines from The View – they later reunited backstage to savor the moment together. Insiders shared with PEOPLE that the atmosphere was filled with pure happiness and joy.

Jennifer shared that she intends to invite her Morning Show colleagues, including Whoopi and Sara, to join her there. In amusement, they discussed the possibility of donning their “Oh, Mary!” T-shirts at work the following day.

The story of Oh Mary!

Mary, oh Mary! “Is a humorous play written by Cole Escola, who additionally acts in it. The plot concentrates on the unhappy and smothered Mary Todd Lincoln during the final weeks preceding Abraham Lincoln’s assassination in 1865. In this production, Conrad Ricamora portrays Abraham Lincoln. Furthermore, James Scully is cast as Mary’s instructor, Bianca Leigh as her chaperone, and Tony Macht as her husband’s aide.”

I’m thrilled to be part of this remarkable production, with Sam Pinkleton at the helm as our visionary director. The way we’re reinterpreting history has really resonated with audiences, leaving them in awe. Our creative team is a powerhouse of talent: Dots brings our setting to life through breathtaking scenic designs; Holly Pierson enchants us with exquisite costumes; Cha See illuminates the stage with innovative lighting; Daniel Kluger immerses us with captivating sound and music; Addison Heeren ensures every prop is authentic and essential; Drew Levy masterfully crafts our production’s unique soundscapes; David Dabbon orchestrates stunning arrangements, and Leah J. Loukas designs wigs that perfectly complement each character. Together, we’re creating an unforgettable theatrical experience.

Henry Russell Bergstein, with the title CSA (Casting Director), was in charge of selecting the cast members for the production. In addition, Bryan Bauer served as the production stage manager, while Ryan Patrick Kane supported him as the assistant stage manager.

Cola Escola’s journey

I’m thrilled to share that I, Cola Escola, am making my Broadway debut with the show “Oh Mary!” However, this isn’t my first time gracing a stage. In fact, my performing career took off right here in New York City, where I honed my craft in the vibrant cabaret scene. Every month, I would treat audiences to my solo shows at the Duplex in the West Village.

Their professional success began when they starred in the widely popular YouTube series Jeffrey & Cole Casserole. This achievement opened doors for them, resulting in their first significant television role on Logo in 2009. They have also appeared in other notable shows such as Difficult People, Search Party, Mozart in the Jungle, National Lampoon Radio Hour, and At Home with Amy Sedaris.

Celebrities continue to show support

Celebrities have shown great enthusiasm for the play since its premiere. Notable figures such as Timothée Chalamet, Amy Schumer, and Bowen Yang have graced the audience with their presence at various performances. Adding to the star power, Sally Field, who portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln in the 2012 film “Lincoln,” attended a show along with its director, Steven Spielberg. Impressed by what he saw, Spielberg expressed his approval, stating, “This is the movie we should have made.”

The Off-Broadway production of the play, which debuted at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, was a complete sell-out. Its popularity led to a move to Broadway, with previews beginning on June 26 and an official opening on July 11. The show’s continued success has resulted in an extension of its run until November 10.
