As a long-time fan of the Stranger Things series, I was both excited and disappointed when I heard that the final season will only be set in Hawkins, Indiana. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the appeal of returning to the place where it all began and revisiting the original groupings and pairings that we had in season one. However, as someone who has followed the show since its inception, I feel like we’ve been to so many new places and explored different storylines in seasons three and four. I was looking forward to seeing how these new characters and locations would fit into the bigger picture of the Stranger Things universe.
The eagerly anticipated second half of “Stranger Things 4” ended on a suspenseful note, leaving viewers yearning for resolution. As this prolonged tale of a psychically gifted girl, her tech-savvy pals, and a community harboring a hidden dark realm prepares for its grand finale, excitement levels are sky-high. The Duffer Brothers have long planned for “Stranger Things 5” to be the concluding chapter. Consequently, they’ve been gradually sharing tidbits about what’s to come. Here is a summary of the latest updates regarding “Stranger Things 5”.

A Mysterious Name on Stranger Things 5‘s Cast/Character List
Ross Duffer hinted on Instagram about possible characters set to appear in the upcoming season, leaving one name concealed with a marker. Fans are excitedly speculating over the obscured name, with some hoping it’s “Eddie Munson.” However, it’s more likely that this is a new character yet to be revealed. Linda Hamilton has indeed been confirmed as part of the cast.
Still, we’ll hold onto hope while we can.
Production to Begin in January 2024
The filming of Stranger Things 5 came to a halt when Hollywood’s studios failed to offer reasonable compensation and backing to their creative team. However, with the recent resolution of the strikes, production is once again progressing. This development is hoped to bring about an abundance of fresh insights and sneak peeks for fans eagerly anticipating new information.
According to Deadline’s report, the production of “Stranger Things 5” is expected to begin in early January 2024, specifically around the 5th or 8th of the month.
Stranger Things 5 Chapter One, Scene One
On Stranger Things Day 2023, I, as an excited fan, rejoice in the writers’ room revealing a sneak peek of the opening scene for Stranger Things 5. They described it as “a scene shrouded in darkness, accompanied by the chill of the wind and groaning trees. And then, a child’s voice, singing a melody that resonated with me.”
Is it possible that “Dustin and Suzie” or “Will and Jonathan Byers” are the ones singing that song? Or could it be “Max” who’s listening to “Running Up That Hill”? Let’s hope it’s just for enjoyment and not an attempt to ward off Vecna.
Stranger Things 5 Releases Pre-Vis First-Looks at Episode One
As a passionate gamer and avid fan of “Stranger Things,” I never imagined we’d get a sneak peek at season 5 so early on. But due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the creative team behind our beloved show was given the green light to resume work, and they didn’t disappoint. They shared an intriguing first-look at Steve Harrington’s return in “Stranger Things 5.”
Heads up, this is the early concept art for episode 1’s scene. In other words, you’re getting an advanced peek at season 5. We were very clear with Joe that he needs to replicate this performance accurately.

They added a warning, “FYI, this is a preview of episode 1’s scene and your initial peek into season 5. Joe was instructed to act identically during filming. This sneak peek doesn’t give away any information… Yet it’s nice to see Steve once again.”

The authors further developed the scene and disclosed that Jonathan is part of it as well. It seems they’re collaborating on a project, possibly working on a car or similar task. Their fragile friendship piques our interest, making us eager for more insights.
In the end, the writers of “Stranger Things” have shared a pre-visualization of a scene from “Stranger Things 5.” This scene involves Nancy, Jonathan, and Dustin in a car, shouting, and it seems they might be making their way to the Upside Down via McCorkle’s farm from “Stranger Things 2.” Quite intriguing.

Stranger Things 5 Will Be a Return to Season One and More
The Duffer Brothers teased the tone we can expect from Stranger Things 5. They shared:
Five, in our perspective, represents a blend of all the seasons. Previously, each season had its unique identity: Season 3 was known for its grand summer blockbuster elements and monsters, while Season 4 stood out with psychological horror. With Five, we aim to bring back some aspects from the earlier seasons, specifically in terms of tone, which resembles Season 1.
The final season of “Stranger Things” will put a stronger spotlight on Will Byers, as confirmed by the Duffer Brothers in an interview with Variety. Although there hasn’t been any definitive on-screen confirmation of Will’s sexuality, actor Noah Schnapp has shared that his character is gay both on TikTok and in previous interviews. Schnapp also mentioned that his own experiences would influence how he plays Will in the last season.
In simpler terms, Schnapp expresses, “My actions in season five could change a bit, I’ll admit. With a better understanding of my character, I feel more self-assured and can’t wait to put that awareness into my performance.”
In the fifth season, Ross Duffer notes, Will’s storyline becomes pivotal once more. This significant development for him is intended to bring closure to the entire series. Throughout his life, Will has been the youngest, most reserved, and shielded character. Therefore, an essential aspect of his growth involves not only exploring his sexuality but also asserting himself as a mature young man.
The size and scope of each episode remain just as grand as those in Stranger Things 4. The creators behind Stranger Things went to great lengths in their vivid descriptions of the forthcoming season. Here’s a peek:
Season 5 is like if season 1 and 4 had a baby. And then that baby was injected with steroids.
— stranger writers (@strangerwriters) March 21, 2023
As a devoted fan of Stranger Things since its inception, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation when it comes to the upcoming fifth season. The creators have shared that the script left Netflix executives in tears, and David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, described it as “very, very moving.” Based on my past experiences with this show, I’m confident that we’re in for an emotional rollercoaster ride. So buckle up, folks! This is going to be a wild ride that will no doubt leave us all feeling invested and connected to the characters and their stories like never before.
Will There Be a Time Jump Between Stranger Things 4 and Stranger Things 5?
As a dedicated fan, I can share that during an interview, the creators of “Stranger Things” hinted that we might not experience a significant time leap between seasons 4 and 5. However, they also mentioned that they keep the option open for potential jumps if the storyline calls for it.
In an interview prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, David Harbour discussed with the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast about the timeline for “Stranger Things 5.” He mentioned, “We’ll pick up the story somewhere after that scene on the hill where we see the ash and smoke. So you can assume the world has changed significantly.” This implies that a considerable amount of time may have passed since the events on the hill, although the remnants of the chaos still linger when filming commences.
The Title of Stranger Things 5‘s First Episode
In honor of “Stranger Things” Day 2022, Netflix provided a sneak peek into what’s to come in the last season of the series. They shared the name of the first episode for “Stranger Things 5.” This intriguing title goes by the name: “Chapter One: The Crawl.”
Hmm… The title doesn’t provide much clarification yet. However, if it implies Eddie Munson coming back to life after his demise in the Upside Down, that’s an intriguing possibility. It’s not impossible, so we’ll keep watching. Many fans must be brainstorming theories about this Stranger Things 5 title by now.
Stranger Things 5 Will Be Shorter Than Stranger Things 4
In simpler terms, the makers of “Stranger Things 5” have mentioned that this upcoming season will likely be shorter than the previous one. The explanation given is that a significant portion of Season 4 was dedicated to setting up the story and introducing new characters before delving into the supernatural mystery. This included showing the kids in their everyday high school lives and Steve’s attempts to find a date, among other things.
Currently, the Duffer brothers and other “Stranger Things” scriptwriters seem to be hinting at a potential fifth season consisting of eight episodes.

As someone who has been a dedicated fan of the Stranger Things series since its inception, I can confidently say that the cliffhanger ending of season 4 has left me both excited and anxious for what lies ahead in season 5. The chaos and turmoil that unfolded at the end of the latest installment have left me with the feeling that there’s no shortage of action, drama, and intrigue waiting for us in the next chapter.
Stranger Things 5 Will Only Be Set in Hawkins
The fourth season of “Stranger Things” took us on a journey hopping between various locations in multiple states and even Russia. However, the upcoming final season is set to bring us back to where it all started: Hawkins, Indiana. As shared by Matt Duffer with Entertainment Weekly, the creators’ intention is to revisit many elements from the first season and reunite the original characters’ dynamics that we came to love.
I’m excited about the new additions to the cast, Robin and Erica, in “Stranger Things 5.” But I wonder where they’ll fit in with the existing groups. In the first season, we saw a lot of focus on Mike, Dustin, and Lucas being together while Will was missing. If this means Will will be separated from his friends once again, I have mixed feelings about it!
Another way to phrase this could be: The Duffer Brothers have made it clear that they have a plan for how “Stranger Things” will conclude. We can only imagine what surprises they may still have in store.
The Work Is Currently on Hold for Stranger Things 5
In an interview with Collider, Ross Duffer revealed that the writers’ team would resume work in August 2022. But their progress was disrupted when a writers’ strike occurred in May 2023. The Stranger Things writers took to Twitter to announce that they would halt production until a satisfactory agreement was negotiated.
Hi there! I’m here as a writer, but unfortunately, filming doesn’t mean the end of my writing duties. Although we’re eager to begin production with our fantastic team, the ongoing strike makes that impossible at this time. We fervently hope for a fair resolution soon, allowing us all to get back to what we do best. Until then, stay strong #wgastrong!
— stranger writers (@strangerwriters) May 6, 2023
It’s probable that we won’t see the release of Stranger Things 5 before the year 2025. But this delay is acceptable given the priority placed on ensuring fair treatment for the show’s cast and crew.
The Stranger Things Spinoff Will Connect to the Series
As a devoted fan, I’ve come across an intriguing piece of news about a mysterious spin-off of “Stranger Things.” The Duffer Brothers and Finn Wolfhard seem to be the only ones privy to its existence, as they mentioned in a recent podcast interview that it will have “connective tissue” with the original series. They’re eager to contribute but also looking for someone capable to take charge and let them explore fresh ideas. Having been immersed in the “Stranger Things” universe for quite some time, it’s no wonder they seek a successor to carry on the legacy.
Max Is in a Really, Really Bad Situation
The Duffers reveal unfortunate updates about Max’s condition in “Stranger Things.” She is still alive, yet in a critical state with no brain activity, blindness, and shattered bones. Therefore, Max’s identity has drastically changed from before. As for the upcoming season five, it remains uncertain if she will be used as Vecna’s host or something similar. We desperately hope that Max will recover instead. Please, let her live!
